Boeing 757 British Airways 'Whale Rider' - Zvezda 1/144 with 26Decals

Boeing 757 British Airways 'Whale Rider'

Zvezda 1/144 with 26Decals

The Zvezda Boeing 757 is a lovely kit, one of the very best airliner models available. It comes with decals for the previous Icelandair livery, but I wanted to do mine in one of the 'World Tail' schemes. (They should have done one called 'Marmite' as people seemed to love or hate them at the time!). Personally I liked them.

If you can spot them, the cockpit is crewed by a couple of CRM 3D printed pilots.

I would have liked to have done the Tartan 'Bennyhone' one but couldn't find a set anywhere. Fortunately 26 Decals do a fair few of these schemes for the 757, so I chose 'Whale Rider' as it was on the only 757 I ever flew on, on the Manchester/Heathrow shuttle in 1998. It's as good a reason as any!

I'll give a shout out for 26 Decals here as these were absolutely superb. The Tail and British Airways elements were laser printed and fitted with precision, the most stress free decals I have used in a long time. They also come with a sheet of silk screen printed standard 757 items for all the details.

It is a hugely enjoyable combination of a superb kit with a set of superb decals, and one that doesn't happen often enough!

Of course I have to do a 'with something else', so how about a DACO 737-400 in 'Blue Poole'

I'll have to get on with that Revell 767 in the 'Chelsea Rose' scheme now 👍

Thanks for looking,

John

I give Zvezda credit, the nose looks like a 757 nose. Beautiful model, by the way.

That’s gorgeous. It certainly looks like a 757 to my eye - and like you I loved the BA world scheme tails which were certainly eye catching around the airports!

Beautiful work, love the choice of scheme too, I'll second your praise for 26Decals as I used a set recently to complete a Zvezda 757 in its final retirement scheme and as you point out they are flawless in doing what you need them to! Really loving how this turned out for you. What paint did you go with for the blue on the lower fuselage if you don't mind me asking?

I was lucky enough to help complete the very first Daily check and prep of the real G-CPEO for its very first revenue passenger flight with BA after its delivery from Boeing way back in '97 during my apprenticeship... "new car smell" on a bigger scale!

Fantastic build,

Absolutely superb John. A really inspirational model.

I wasn't sure about the World Tails until I discovered how much Margaret Thatcher hated them. (Remember the infamous handkerchief episode?) I then immediately became a confirmed fan and I was sorry when everything succumbed to flag tail uniformity.

Always thought they missed a trick there and should have retained the 6 or so British-themed designs .....

Lovely, clean tidy work as ever John -

You must have quite an airline on display in your home!

beautiful work, John! And awesome to see you are using our products, i think your build again shows how much better a proper cockpit with Pilot figures looks, if built well. keep on with the great work!

Beautifully modelled - quite a stunning end result. I'll get one myself from Zvezda and forget I ever had an EE 757 in the stash

Brings back to happy memories of a busy T1 at LHR and those incredible steep ear popping ascents before everything became Airbus

Great connection with G-CPEO!

I used Tamiya TS-15 Blue straight from the rattle can on this. I had done an internet search on what people have used for the BA 'World Blue' and found a couple of refences to it. As I had a can of this very paint in my modelling room, I thought I'd give it a try. Like the real thing, It has the quality of looking lighter or darker under various conditions. I'll definitely use it again.

All the kind comments much appreciated,

John

Thanks John. Although I didn't ask the question, that's worth knowing now that Halfords Fiat Capri Blue seems to be a thing of the past.

Don't often see 1/144 scale airliners crewed. Good work. I photographed a few of these arty tails on BA aircraft although they upset Mrs T. They had a short life before being replaced with a wavy Union Flag design.

I come in a bit late, some health issues beat me to it.

Superb 757 in a great livery John.

I also had a run with my Zvezda 757s this year and finished 5 of them during the summer amongst many other projects.

Unfortunately I found no time yet to post all of them.

Thanks for sharing
