Hi,

Here's my Tamiya F-35A.

I'll be using Furball decals to build 19-5495 of the 495th FS.

I considered building the 48th FW flagship with the 4 squadron badges, but these are smaller than the single squadron badge on this one and I'm glad to have the 495th back at Lakenheath.

I had seen this aircraft in 2022 and again this year.

I'm going to keep this build simple with a closed bombbay. It's going to be my first build of anything with "Have Glass" colours. I'll see how that goes with the MRP paints.

Cheers, Stefan.

Hello, Tim.

Being from Belgium, I obviously didn't grow up in Lakenheath. But it's certainly part of my life too.

The first time I went there was for the 1992 Open Day. Still F-111's present and the last Lakenheath Open Day as far as I know.

From then on, more visits followed and I sometimes stayed with a friend who had a house in Broom Street. Sometimes, I walked his dog on the heath after the flying.🙂

Cheers, Stefan.

Wow small world Stefan - I lived at the top of Broom Road in houses that backed on to the warren where I also walked the family dog! I remember the F-4Ds transitioning to F-111Fs - as you say that was the last open day. I myself joined the UK military and went back on leave, being home the night of the Libya raid in 1986 - I thought that WW3 was starting with the launches...
