tomprobert
That cockpit is exceptional! I’ve ummed and ahhhhed about buying this kit but it looks really good - seeing you work your magic has certainly whetted my appetite and interest in this model and I may well take the plunge if I see one when out and about. Keep up the good work, old chap! Tom 1
modelling minion
I think the cockpit looks excellent Johnny, the additions you have made make a visible difference and the IP has turned out superbly. The mod on the nose seems to have sorted that issue too, very nice work. 1

But looks like I might be making Giorgio happy with painted ones. 😳😬 On 14/08/2024 at 10:18, modelling minion said: I think the cockpit looks excellent Johnny, the additions you have made make a visible difference and the IP has turned out superbly. The Spadgent
Im struggling to fine a scheme that I’m happy with. I liked the “hun hunter” but I’ve seen that one done and I wanted my own version. I liked this. But I can’t quite tell what’s going on with the nose art or what colour it is on the underside. So I found this one that has the same birth year as Mrs Spadgent. It’ll have the same azure blue underside. The nice US ARMY on the wing and no tricky artwork to paint. Apart from. I saw this on the fuel tank of “Hun Hunter” And instantly thought of @corsaircorp So what the heck. I figured I’d add that fuel tank to “77” seems legit? I’m just going to post this up for my personal reference on the wing undersides and decal positions. ok. Choices made. For now. 🥳 The PE seat belts got made and an undercoat added. I also made a little red ball for the top of one of the levers in the cockpit that was missing. The intake got cut off and tidied while I was waiting for the belts to dry. I decided to drill out the butterfly valve and add a plasticard one at a very slight angle. And in place. I also made a robots face using brass parts. 🤖 And a quick dry fit. Should look good. not much today but all progress is good progress right. 🙌 Take care and Happy Modelling. Johnny 17 1

That one will have Azure undersides as it's an RAF machine that was transfered to the USAAF (it still has the RAF fin flash and you can see where the roundel was painted out with either fresh Dark Earth or possibly OD) 11 hours ago, The Spadgent said: So I found this one that has the same birth year as Mrs Spadgent. David H
I think its a great choice of markings! A couple years ago when the kit first came out, Brett Green (a certifiable P-40 NUT), wrote a build article for Military Illustrated modeler on building the kit. The end result looked great but Brett was less than impressed with it. However, i can't remember if he made the effort to re-work the upper fuselage profile. If you wanted, i could rummage through my stash and see if i still have the article.....?

Thanks for the info? The guy who made the “hun hunter” I was looking at had azure blue lower. I’ve seen a few others too. Maybe they got it wrong? You sure it’s grey undersides? Maybe I will go for the RAF one? I do have decals that could male that work. 20 hours ago, modelling minion said: Very nice work on the intake, it looks really good. The Spadgent
Hells bells. Trying to find a scheme for a short tailed p40f is more of a pain than I first imagined. Even if I did go with the one in the photo with the blue underside I don’t know for sides what the shield is or what’d on the other side or what the whole layout is. I’ve been searching on and off all day and I’m darned if I can find anything. I found these schemes from the Special hobby 1/72 set “Short tails over Africa” so hopefully they are correct. There’s one with a blue underside but I’m not thinking to hell with it and just do the 77 one and have a grey underside. Stupid short tail. 😂😂😂 To make myself feel better I built some parts. The wheel wells look rather nice. I’ll paint those up before I install them. Word of warning if you’re going to build this. The grated on the wing are really quite thick and snipping will cause a nasty hole in your lovely wing. Ask me how’s I know. As you can see I’ve glued the gate back on in the next shot and I’ll sand it back when it’s dried. I also steamed and glued in the panels. I couldn’t resist a bit of a dry fit, so. Looks really nice. 😍 Given me a boost to get this thing together. 🫡🤩 There are some nice PE. Parts in the wing flaps. And I have chosen the round exhausts that seem to be all the rage with yer short tailed p-40s rather than the fish tail ones the instructions would have you use. The pegs kick the alignment a little off so I cut them off and slowly glued. They just need a little tidy and they’ll look great when painted. 🙌 More soon. Thanks for dropping by.
