More great workmanship and attention to detail!

I think you may have two of the rear wheels/tyres on the wrong sides as two of the treads appear to be rotating the wrong way - I may be mistaken though

Thought I had the recovery version in my stash. but it's the IBG offering.

Still going to follow this great build though.

Does it matter that the rear tyre treads are different ways around?

In the wartime photo of the captured Scammell, the front wheel looks like the deep-grooved rear tyres (photo seems slightly out of focus, so it's not definite). Does that mean the LZ replacement wheels also could be used in the front, if desired, instead of the inaccurate kit tyres? Just wondering.

Hi Peter, Absolutely. The heavy tread where sometimes used in the front however it is a little pointless as they aren't powered. It's more like the captured ones used the more plentiful heacy tread. The Usual was to have the road type in the front.

Tah Stuart and yes I agree. Hence I went back to the kit tyres 😉👍🏻

Cheers Roger. Yes so I see. Not surprised as I just waked things together for the photo. However that is a very handy heads up so I don't do it 4real 😉👍🏻

I believe IBG do all three versions as well. I've read somewhere that the Thunder are 'better' but who knows. I do have an IBG radio lorry in the pile which I need to get round to and will be interested in how the marque's differ. Looking for ward to your build Tom 😁👍🏻

If you do reverse them one wheel will go backwards and the other forwards so you go round in circles for ever - FACT 😎 but I'm sure it happened in reality occasionally, there is a pic of the transporter with plane tyres so anything goes. I'm no tyre expert but in reality not a lot would happen. These are pretty slow beasts so wont effect the road holding round corners. It probably would perhaps effect the grip a bit off road.

From a modelling perspective it's difficult to show it as deliberate. It would just look obviously wrong.

Hi Andrew,

Nice details on the cab cables, you leave nothing to chance...

Francis 👍

Cheers Francis, well I'm only just starting. Got some pipe work on the chasis to do and a few more cable here and there. There are also a few other details missing in the cab which I will add as well. The main basic build is pretty much done so now it's onto the details 😊

Cheers all

The IBG 1/72 scale Scammels have a lot of dimensional problems with the cab those beter informed than me suggest.

No idea if the problems appear in the 1/35 th scale version, could be the 1/35 th one is correct and someone made an error when re scaling it.

Quite a few threads on the Missing Lynx Braille scale forum on the subject.

Thankfully I don't do braille scale 😁

Had a few good days over the weekend and got lots done

Added the rest of the detail to the cab. They had a couple of rifle clips on a crossmember which was missing. I'll hang a couple of kit bags of these. If you look closely at the bottom of the chair frames there are some wing nuts which hold them down.

20240908_154306

Replaced the kit strengthening panels with Brass sheet to be in scale thickness and added a fire extinguisher.

20240908_154345

And the windscreen wiper motors with droopy cables just so you can see it from the outside.

20240908_154320

Handles, wing nuts and springs for the air filter

20240908_154707

Added the cables and pipework which might be seen.

20240908_154420

More pipework and the exhaust drilled out.

20240908_154442

A pressure gauge missing from the kit

20240908_154501

And another one missing from the kit.

20240908_154531

I've cunningly modified the build so that the whole of the upper section can slot onto the chassis in one. Most of it is non visible mods. I'll paint it in these three parts. Only a couple of bits which will need to be added once fitted together.

20240908_154614

Wheels are now on. Just need to weight them a little. Three sections dry fitted for now.

20240908_154116

20240908_154134

Rear will be completely scratch built.

20240908_154147

And one for the tyre tread counters - British service vehicle with heavy tread on all six wheels with the rear ones the wrong way round 😉🤣

Screenshot_20240908_151419_Google

Finally something I've been meaning to mention for a while. I've stocked up on these which are Clock Makers Oilers. These are cheap as chips and rough as nuts and no self respecting clock maker would be seen dead using them however they are perfect for CA application. Total game changer. So cheap they are practically disposable after a few uses but if you get the steel ones (Not the copper ones) the CA pulls off easily and you can re use.

Close to the end now with work started on the rear

Rear wheels turned around so they're the right way round now!!

20240915_165836

Headlights added which means the chassis is completed. Wheels are weighted as well.

20240915_165851

Storage cage added and modded with hinge loops added to the bottom and the support rod added which is missing from the kit. Also the side lights and weight disc slightly modded and added.

20240915_170117

20240915_170132

Rear scratch built with working hinged rear.

20240915_170153

And as it will be in final position. Unfortunately the cable rollers are too high and interfere with the tailgate. The chassis will have to be raised about a mm or so

20240915_170208

These vehicles don't seem to get much damage but a few scratches won't hurt 😉

20240915_170327

20240915_170345

20240915_170408

Finish the rear with the top section and lots of rivets plus a few little bits of detail and it's good to go to the spray booth. I was feeling pretty confident on the fit of the cab and chassis but I think there may be a few issues coming up!! 🤔🫣

Cheers all

Good! Bring them on. Then I'll book mark them, as I am confident that you'll sort them out. At the moment, it's looking very good Andrew.

Wow!!, Terrific work, the amount of detail added and the skill to do it is incredible.
I could never do something like that...

Cheers

Wow!  All that additional detail has really been worth the effort .... it looks fantastic!  I like all the little things like the wing nuts on the seat frames and pressure guards....  :clap2:

I adapted some random pe and scratched some wire for all of the then found my wing nut pe sheet! 🙄

I'd like to think I'm almost there but I think there's still a few days work to go before I can break out the airbrush 😜

The rear is done. Phew! that was a lot more work than I was expecting. Had to take back the step inside the top so everything fitted. But we got there in the end. I also actually looked at what the rear gate looked  like and put the floor end cross member. Now it all fits. I have upped the locators underneath a tad just to get a gap.

20240922_172925

Curtain rail added

20240922_172935

Lots of rivets  added. Might change the cables. They are just a tad too big. I've got some 0.6mm wide on order so will see what they are like.

20240922_172948

Mudguards are kit but embellished a little to make them look more like the real thing. Other than that its all scratched at the back. Should be able to have a good view of the inside now the tailgate is down.

20240922_173008

Everything fits quit well now. Phew!!

20240922_173017

So I think it's just those funny balls on sticks they often had on the front mudguards which were to aid in tight spots I think. The curtains and rolls on the back and doors and the hoist and thats it. one more full day of modelling will get us to the spray booth 🤞🏻😁👍🏻

Cheers all
