How to create a brushed aluminium finish?

I was looking at Aoshima’s new Delorean DMC 12 and was wondering if anyone could give any help or advice on brushed aluminium finishes?

When I do aluminum foil on model aircraft I dry sand the foil all in one direction with 2000+ grit wet dry so as to give it a grain.

The De Lorean is actually brushed stainless steel

But to your question; this is one time you want brush strokes in your paint finish. Use a slow drying paint and as it dries drag a fine stiff bristled brush lightly over the top. Go in one direction and start the brush drag off the section and carry through to the other side in one go, no stopping for tea
