Hi everyone , my first time on this site . Magpie22 hinted on the shark mouth marking on A58-606 . The old Kookaburra RAAF Spitfire Markings book has two pictures in it of this air frame . The box top rendition showing the smaller shark mouth is what 606 wore when operating out of Darwin in late 1944 . 606 wore a much larger shark mouth when operating out of  Morotai in 1945 , as depicted on the old 1/72 scale Frog kit  . I don't know when the change happened , but the Morotai picture shows some Spitfires still with the smaller rendition - so would suggest early '45

1/24 Spitfire XIV conversion, Early bird application

Dev phase for the 1/24 set is now finalised.

Production phase and instructions redaction will now take over the attention.

It will take another few weeks before release. But

I’d like to offer a few sets early.

Application is open to everyone, but to be selected you have to justify the following:

- Have public channels to showcase your work (whatever they are, forums, social media’s, patreon,…)

- Be willing to commit on starting the building upon receiving ( nothing could force you ultimately, but this is to be regarded as a longer term collaboration based on mutual trust)

- Be experimented enough to be able to assemble the set without complete instructions (guidance provided in case of need).

Please submit your application by writing an email to [email protected]

Cheers.

Mathieu"

Well surely this means an XIV is inevitable in the 2025 range?

Having had a chat with Mathieu and Espen from Buchon Scale Models, this conversion is not too far away. Can't wait! A 1/24 Griffon Spit has long been one of my bucket list kits. Seems Espen will be supplying this conversion along with his low back set as well at some point.

Please do a MkVC conversion. That would allow both RAAF VC & VIII aircraft types to be depicted.

Has anyone who bought this noticed visible sink marks on the fuselage?

My example has some sink marks on the vertical tail and also on the horizontal tail to fuselage join.

These have shown up in some on line WIP builds

They are on both Mk.IX and VIII kits, and having several of each from different sources and bought in different times, all have them.

Unfortunately it is inherent to the tooling, but should not discourage anyone from buying, these are the best Spitfire kits on the market by far

I would agree that overall the kit is very good and the small amount of sink marks are easily dealt with.

Nice XIV conversion set ! GMK -- a Vc would be great -- but I was just going to use some parts [ Vokes filter  ] from the Airfix Vb with the new MkIXc to do a RAAF MkVc . Obviously some surgery involved -- but I think backdating a MkIXc to a Vc shouldn't be to difficult [ famous last words ! ]

You know that the sooner you finish that conversion, the sooner LFD will release a conversion? Respectfully, get cracking! :D

Thanks for the " vote of confidence " GMK ! But really , I am a " gunna " [ gunna do this and gunna do that ] Far - far to many kits to build -- and some have had " more miss starts than a cantankerous  lawnmower "  [ a Politically Correct variation of an Aussie saying ] . As you fully know , many modellers and manufacturers are 3D printing kits and conversions and decals --- I am still struggling to print an email !
