Dear fellow Britmodellers,

here's my 1/72 Amodel Yak-9U.

The Yak-9 is one of the most under-represented WW2 aircraft models in 72 scale, with few options available. To my knowledge Amodel's Yak-9U is the only injection-moulded kit of this type on the market. The kit quality is poor, with very soft and shallow engravings, lots of surface irregularities and iffy fit. Shapes and dimensions are not captured perfectly, either. At least the kit decals worked well this time. The model was upgraded with Extratech photo etch (landing gear doors), Reskit wheels, metal pitot tube from the spares box and painted with Mr.Hobby acrylics.

Nicely done: soft and shallow engraving seems a strong point to me, rather than a weak one.  I have the kit, and consider it one of the better AModel kits and indeed one of the better later Yaks - from a not very impressive bunch, I admit.  But then I haven't really assembled it.  As for injection moulded attempts, High Planes did a Yak 9P which is pretty close to the U for modelling purposes.

NIcely done, one of my favourite little Russian fighters. Always pleased to see Amodel kits made up, especially when as well done as this one.:like:

My limited experience with Amodel kits is always an iffy fit somewhere in the kit.  But, the selections of types of aircraft they kit make the struggle to put them together worth it.  This Yak is so well built and finished.  Just a fine example of a late war Russian fighter.  Thanks for sharing.

You done a great job with this, for sure not an easy model.

Amodel plastic is always challenge when you want to preserve details. You manage that. Colours and weathering are just as on real thing.

I like it very much

Best regards, Djordje
