Corsairfoxfouruncle
Hello everyone … Just ordered this kit of the Grumman S-2 Tracker. https://www.scalemates.com/kits/hasegawa-02266-s2f-1-s-2a-tracker-jmsdf-51st-fs--1117731 Im curious to know if anyone out there has any info or photo’s of the USNR Unit VS-935 Weekend Cold-Warriors. Ive only been able to find a color illustration of the tail empennage. I would think with the International orange it would have been engine grey and not gull grey. Considering it’s a 1960’s reserve/utility squadron. Depending on which source and trust me there aren't many. The squadron either formed in 1961 and disbanded in 1962. Or formed in 1960 and disbanded in 1967. I would be very grateful if anyone had photo’s or more info. Dennis
e8n2
The S in VS-935 stands for ASW. To quote from Tommy Thomason's Tailhook Topics Drafts site, "In 1958 Fluorescent Red Orange replaced International Orange as the standard high-visibility paint on non-training aircraft." So that should be fluorescent red-orange for high vis markings. VU and VC aircraft would have had the engine gray and fluorescent/orange paint up to the time that the Navy did away with that scheme for VU/VC/Drone Director aircraft. The S-2C is the only version that was finished in that scheme and it had a large fairing running along one side of the fuselage (right side IIRC).
