Excellent job there, and 81st aircraft to boot. May have to get one after all.

I thought you might want one. I do too. @Sabrejet has made a good job of building this and if it's that good from the box then so much the better.

The only differences between kits will be decals and instructions.

Sabrejet, any idea of how many initial releases there'll be of this kit? I'm assuming two for 'early' and 'late' -As. Also, it appears from here that the wheel wells are black--is that how you painted them? If that's so, as you're the guy who literally wrote The Book on Sabres, we'll know that's correct. If that's so, at what point did the wells start to be painted ZC or interior green? Many thanks for sharing your knowledge here!

At least two is all I know: F-86A-5 and F-86A-6/7.

The 'black' is the camera's poor contrast in artificial light: it is Interior Green, matched from unmolested panels. I have suggested a colour to CP so the instructions will correctly state it too. I can't recall zinc chromate on anything but speed brake panel interiors; even in that case I think the colour resulted from a replacement panel rather than factory spec.

Another forum posted photos of kit boxes dated 29 June claiming Clear Prop! made their June release deadline, yet no mainstream stores even show the kit in their 'future releases' lists. Might we see an actual physical first release "grand opening" at the US IPMS nationals next week? Yes, I know I'm chomping at the bit & being too impatient but the fact that last year I blew $150 on a 48th Cutting Edge conversion indicates my Sabre fanaticism... Anyway, I'm bringing an empty suitcase to the Nats just for this kit. Hoping for a surprise 3-D release! There, now that I've vented, you may return to your regular modeling (and searches for OOP F-86A decals, designing F-86 aftermarket accessories...) Hope to meet many of you in Madison next week.

Eek. And the speed brake wells are incorrect on that Cutting Edge conversion.

SWMBO keeps asking me if it’s available yet, I think she’s planning to ‘surprise’ me with one. She used to refuse to buy me kits for presents on the ‘ you’ve got enough already ‘ basis, but she seems to be mellowing in her old(er) age.

Original intake ring was fibreglass, sometimes painted with a neoprene-type finish, usually painted in gloss grey and later just left in natural fibreglass finish (reddish brown). The later aircraft (F-86E/F etc) had an aluminium intake ring but with a small radar-transparent panel inset into the upper lip. That item is in fact fibreglass-covered honeycomb with a neoprene (black) external protective coating.

Great build, it sure has me excited for this kit. my dad was stationed in France on a RCAF Sabre base.

I noticed this many years on the Canadair Mk 1 prototype we had on our base for many years in our Memorial Aircraft Park. The intake was bare fibreglass at the time. Since then the aircraft was donated to the Alberta Aviation Museum and has since been on display there.

At one point we had the jet stored in my squadrons hanger and I was climbing all over it. I have a ton of detail pictures.

What sets the Block 6 and Block 7 F-86As apart from the Block 5, which, I believe, most people are familiar with?

The -6/7 have aluminium intake rings (akin to F-86F etc) and the A-1 gunsight; also pitot probe on the RH wingtip. Open gun muzzles etc are between the two variants but generally associated with -6/7, as are stuka fins on the drop tanks and other more minor differences.

I really should pay more attention to 1/48 threads, I learn stuff & see fabulous modelling. This thread ticks both those boxes, a super build Duncan, I'm in awe of your lightning bolts on this. Also hoping for a 1/72 version that I can apply some of my newly found F-86A knowledge to. :)

Steve.

Just saw an unattributed source claim Clear Prop! says that the 'A' Sabre kit will be available to order this week. 😃 Nothing on their site as of now (Sunday 28.7). When sales eventually open up, I'm down for two of the first release (86A-5) then two of the second (86A-7) just to get all of the decal options. Will cut out the middlemen and order direct to ensure that Clear Prop! gets the max from me for their investment in my modeling passion. Then I'm sure to gradually accumulate more kits as more aftermarket decal options begin to appear...

The Sabre is now available on the ClearProp!Models site, along with 'aftermarket' accessories for same. The gunsights will be useful for other Sabre kits as well.  Yes, I broke my bank. https://clearpropmodels.com/cp_4824  (edited to add: Looks like I'm late to the party--I just now discovered the other thread.)

Clear Prop make some really nice very well detailed kits with fine panel lines. I do wish they would release the Super Frelon soon as that would sell really well

Sorry for the spam, 😔
I have sent emai to the company Clear Prop twice this month to order some F-86A parts and I have not take answer from anyone yet. Is there anyone there? Has anyone contacted the Clear Prop company?
