jono1122 Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Hello, I see a few posts on here advocating the use of Halfords Fiat Capri blue. A search reveals it is no longer available. I can buy Hycote's version, has anyone used that before? Am I overlooking this and missed this on Halfords website? Thanks, JR.
Skodadriver Posted June 1 Posted June 1 Halfords seem to have completely messed up re-vamped their paint range. I can't imagine anybody doing a car body repair being happy to buy something described as "Blue Metallic Car Spray Paint". To answer your question (at least to a point) Hycote paint is fine. I've used it on and off over the years and generally found it similar to Halfords although I should point out I usually decant and airbrush so I don't know how it sprays from the can. I haven't tried their Fiat Capri Blue so I can't confirm the colour match but I doubt if it will be far off. If it's of any interest I used Hycote Post Office Van Red on this model and you can see the result for yourself. Hope that's some help Dave G 1
Farmer matt Posted June 2 Posted June 2 There is a conversion chart in store from 'name' to the new system, but some colours previously available are not on tbe list, eg Ford Rosso Red. It is worth checking that to see. I do not yet know whether the 'new' colours are entirely generic with just a 'best match' in the conversion, or if they are still proper colours with a new system that someone thought was a good idea. One thought I did have was that perhaps so many of the colour names are trademarked, along with obviously the car brand, that they might have run into an issue. I did query what had happened to the several hundred tins of perfectly useable old stock that were previousl on display, but that just got a shrug. Landfill probably. Matt 1
Farmer matt Posted June 3 Posted June 3 As an aside, if you do buy the new Halfords tins, either put the lid back immediately or make sure you have labelled the can. All the tin says is Gloss(or Metallic) Spray Paint, so if you have several chaos will ensue otherwise. Matt 1
AntPhillips Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Coincidentally, I was in Halfords on Saturday looking for a can of Fiat Capri Blue to finish off a non-modelling related project (started with a tin left over from a previous BA build) to say that the new system is overly complicated is an understatement. Looking at the chart in store there are a number of Fiat Blues but none of them are called Capri. Asking a member of staff got me nowhere so I went for a roughly similar colour and resprayed the whole job (a novelty plant pot holder).
bentwaters81tfw Posted June 3 Posted June 3 Another Halfords giant leap for mankind. I have been trying to get cans of their acrylic Aluminium for the last 3 months. Seems to have disappeared. Hycote paints I find a bit thin, so multiple light coats seem to be the answer. Always the same, the 'new improved version' of anything is inferior. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
jono1122 Posted June 3 Author Posted June 3 Thanks all for your great feedback! AntPhillips - what one did you pick up and thoughts regarding matching of colour to Capri Blue?

I ended up getting a non-Halfords branded can of metal paint, it was slightly brighter than Capri Blue, hence why I had to respray the whole thing. Unfortunately used the whole can and did a dump run on Sunday so no can to refer too sorry 😟
BrianI Posted June 6 Posted June 6 The old Halfords paints had a sensible naming system, making it easier to choose a suitable paint for a model!
