Some more around Hampshire today. Early Jag saloon with an expensive number plate - 1 & three letters (thought I could remember them but when I did a DVLA check the plate I thought it was is on a black Porsche - & yes @Farmer matt I can tell the difference between the two :rofl2:  (although I don't know what Jag model it was!!)).

Just after that a lovely mid green Ford Consul, driven by a young enthusiast - which led me to wonder whether it might be considerably cheaper for a young driver to insure a classic?

Then in Farnborough Asda car park - which was heaving - a nice red 'not a Sprint' Triumph Dolomite - looking very pretty on a set of 'Minilites'.

Finally (that I can remember) another 1930's open tourer type thing - a bit bigger than that seen yesterday, so not looking quite as vulnerable in modern traffic!

Few other cars seen, but can't remember individual vehicles, were more Saabs in one day than I've seen in months - including 9-3 Convertibles, a 9-3 estate and more than one 9-3 saloon - it's as if they hadn't stopped making 9-3's....!!

Keith

Oh, and just remembered, two very nice Mercs on the M4 on the way home, a silver 190E, and a pale yellow 230e (according to the badge on the boot!) that looked standard apart from being slightly lowered and sitting on a set of bigger, wider wheels - looked very nice!

Thanks for looking in

Chris

Great to see the little Polo Saloon.  I had a jade green one with a GTi style double light grill.  When I said I'd buy it the dealer gave me a ring binder of details on the car.  It had been fully race prepared bt the late Brian Ricketts (BRMotorsport).  Apparantly Brian had had an accident and did the work in convalescence.   The engine was tuned, suspension lowered and a Golf brake servo added to prove a point because VW said a servo couldn't be fitted due to the right hand drive set-up.  A real sleeper of a car and I do miss it.

Wow, that car sounds awesome,  would love to see any pics if you have them.  The Servo is interesting as they do have what some refer to as shocking brakes.

Some cracking Spots Keith.

Re the younger drivers yes it is cheaper to insure a classic.  My Son's insurance after he passed his driving test was £1700 with a black box, for a 1litre Polo breadvan.   When I was getting this quote , I asked how much??? The lady on the other end said she had just sorted a policy for a 17 Yr old on a modern Ford Fiesta and that was 4 grand!!!

My SD1 3500 was 400 quid when I was 19 and I thought they were robbing me then!!!.

My Son's insurance has gone down to £1200 this year!!!

They have you over a barrel due to it being a legal requirement.

Remembering plates is something I am hopeless at. Half a mile at best, or until I see something else, and often I think it's an easy one for some reason but still look it up and get a blank.

A while ago I mentioned a chopped Moggie on here which had no discernible plate when I first saw it. Five times since with plates, still none the wiser cos I've forgotten again.

another thing we have around here is loads of Saabs. There was a large dealership in Caterham which may be why. All seem very well cared for too.

I had a Polo as a loan car from a garage, took it back at the end of the day and said the brakes didn't work. "It's ok sir,  they are all like that'

Blimey, that takes me back.  I used to work near his place and once took my Scirocco for a tune up... he was quite scathing about my Autocavan lower wishbone brace, said it was useless.  😵‍💫

Spotted at the north end of the M11 (heading south) this morning, a G suffix MGB soft top in red.  Looked very well maintained.

I saw the Polo in a little former VW dealers in a village called Harvington.   The garage is now housing.  I needed to change my car and I thought "That looks nice and tidy, looks lower but must be because it's a saloon"  I had a look.  The garage owner came out and chatted and I had a quick drive.  I said I liked it and put  a deposit down.  There was a very small 'BRMotorsport' sticker on the boot.  I just thought I  was an old dealer sticker or something.  Anyway, the garage owner came out and chatted more and asked if I was really sure etc etc.  Anyway when I went to collect the car a couple of days later he said 'Oh I forgot the other day, you better have this...'   It was a binder full of invoices and notes on what had been done to the car.  I truly didn't realise what a special car it was.  Even the twin headlights had been upgraded to very very bright lights with relays.  A little rev counter on the dash board.  Suspension lowered (full adjustable Boge race set up) and the discrete look maintained by steel wheels.

Awful photo sorry

Quickly grabbed this 1993 Lancia Thema??,

1993lanciathema

Sadly I was not paying attention, because this was only a few seconds behind it but was well on its way before I could throw the camera in it's general direction.

Honestly, I'm not even sure what this is, but I spotted it in a local parking lot the other day. Click on the picture to see it better.

Funky car2

Whatever makes you happy, I suppose. I wouldn't take it through a car wash, though.

8.32 has yellow badges, different wheels (I think, from memory, and not different style, just bigger), lower suspension which along with the bigger wheels fill the arches more, and it would have a rectangular panel line on the top of the bootlid where its retractable spoiler lives.

Correction, I just looked it up. The 8.32 had a different style wheel, a flat faced 5 spoke, Ferrari style wheel that looks like a simplified 348's wheel.

A nice sighting in South London last night.

I used to hate those things when I was young, and when they were fairly common on the roads. I thought they looked silly, old, cheap and horrible... the opposite of both sporty and desirable.

Now, I see the attraction in both the styling and the engineering, and I rather like them. Better late than never I guess.

There's still some out there for latecomers :) I grew up with one a couple of roads down from my parents and always loved driving bumper cars at fun fair because they were shaped as DSs when I was a kid.
It was a nice coincidence seeing that DS because I rewatched Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy the night before and a beautiful Butter Cup Brown DS features as Guillam/Benedict Cumberbatch drives Smiley/Gary Oldman around.

So last weekend a supercar club (yes, another one) visited my hometown for a weekend trip to Central Java. Plenty of cars, but there are of course highlights.

TYAS-5038.jpg

This might look like a tarted-up Ferrari 599, but this is actually an even rarer car than 599 GTO or 599 SA Aperta. This is 599 GTB 60F1, also known as 599 GTB Fernando Alonso Edition. Built to celebrate Ferrari's 60 years of winning F1 races, this particular car sports the halo colour scheme of Senor Eyebrows' old 150 Italia F1 car from 2011, complete with the fake barge board painted livery, Bianco Italia A-pillar, a new take on Rosso Scuderia paint called Rosso F1 Storico, and airbrushed Scuderia shield and Scuderia Ferrari logo. Even more interesting, whilst the 60F1 was based on 599 GTB HGTE, this particular unit uses the exterior parts and seats from 599 GTO. So you could almost call it a one-off, out of only 40 60F1 ever made.

TYAS-5050.jpg

SF90 Stradale is a rather popular car here (though the price in secondhand market has been falling off a cliff these days), but this one's rather unique. It was actually specced by one of Indonesia's most prolific Ferrari customer who happens to run a parallel import dealership as well. He specced this while waiting for his Cavalcade Edition SF90 Spider, and once that arrived this was sold to another customer. The colour is a historic colour called Rosso Magma, a gorgeous 4-layer deep scarlet red with lots of pearlescent and metallic flakes to it. The livery is painted in Bianco Italia, while the interior is a two-tone split theme with white passenger seat and red driver's seat, as some sort of 'Indonesia Special' tribute spec.

TYAS-5073.jpg

One of my favourite 911, the 991.2 GT2 RS. Its predecessor, the 997.2, are famously terrifying to drive. The 991.2, while it wasn't exactly a pussycat to drive, is a different proposition altogether. So planted and yet terrifyingly fast in straight line.

TYAS-5077.jpg

Huracan STO. Looks absolutely out of place in Bandung's small outskirt roads with all the small houses and stores and roadside makeshift workshops.

TYAS-5094.jpg

Another 991.2, this time a GT3 RS finished in PTS Voodoo Blue and equipped with Weissach Package. Voodoo Blue is, weirdly, not a Porsche colour to begin with, but a Toyota colour for the FJ Cruiser and US-market Tacoma.

TYAS-4949.jpg

This one is a resident of my hometown of Bandung. And it is one of my favourite 458 Italia. Clean, unmodified, just nicely specced without too many carbon fibre trinkets. Classy spec. I don't even mind the Rosso Corsa paint, and I'm not a fan of Rosso Corsa. Silver wheels are just oh so good.

One close to my old Land Rover loving heart yesterday, a 1981 LR 109 Stage 1 V8 truck cab, pretty tidy but still working for a living by the look of it, the only one in the country according to Carjam. The most remarkable thing was my remembering the rego number just now as I came across this thread. :)

I posted a photo of  this car in an earlier SOTD thread, but I saw it again and got a better look. One of the vets at our local vet clinic owns it and it's a daily driver.

It's been repainted but otherwise it looks pretty original, the interior is definitely unrestored and in good condition.

Not sure how I identified it in the previous thread but I think it's an Alvis factory TA-21 DHC, 1950 or so.

I've seen it on the road and chased it a few times, definitely a quick car! Not embarrassed in modern traffic, quite the opposite in fact.

One day I'll catch up with the owner and have a talk about it.

I'm just so pleased to see a car like this on the road and regularly driven...
