Fabrice Simon Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Hi Plastivores! Here's a recent assembly that was used as the basis for a tutorial on PE at a CAMO75 (my modelling club) workshop. I was able to present it almost finished on its base last weekend at the Saumur show. The work's base is an old kit that I found in the attic of my family home after watching the "Rogue Heroes" series last year. As I didn't pay anything for the kit, I had no qualms about adding some made-in-China resin, Def wheels and a PE set (the whole thing probably costing two or three times what I bought the kit for decades ago...) (the increase in the price of life and plastic, that's something!) (not that I usually have qualms..). phew! Anyway, here's the result before painting: If you find that the front right wheel sticks out a little (a lot) from the wing, that's normal. The cab is not fixed at this stage to make it easier to paint . The next post will deal with painting Fabrice 27
Keeff Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Nicely done ... I like the 'chucked on' look of the stowage and tarps in green .... it does look as if the crew have overpacked the camping equipment! 😂 Keith 😁 1
Bullbasket Posted May 24 Posted May 24 With all of the add ons, you've taken this to a much higher level. I especially like the replacement wheels and spare. Very nice work. John. 1
Model Mate Posted May 24 Posted May 24 Looks like the last time I moved house! Looking forward to the paint job. You’ve done a great job so far and I’m sure the paint will match this high standard. I love the broken headlight…. 1 1

The only thing I would say is to make it that much better it should ride a lot lower and lot look like it is jacked up with all of that weight on itleaf spring suspension would sag with all that on it. Fabrice Simon Posted May 25 Author Posted May 25 @pete you're absolutely right, but it's too late to put things right. the diorama is almost finished. So here's the paint job, which is very classic, with a black primer followed by a white lightening to act as a 'background' for the colours. Next come the colours, airbrushed on the vehicle and brushed on for the details and stowage. Everything is then worked with filters, washes and other applications of oil paint before the pigments are apply At this stage, the driver's cab is still not fixed, details have been added and there are still lots of things to fix. See you Fabrice 26
Bullbasket Posted May 26 Posted May 26 Looks even better now with a coat of paint. Great job. John. 1
Kingsman Posted May 26 Posted May 26 My only teeny weeny and very late comment would be that the Sten SMG was not used by the LRDG and AFAIK was not used in North Africa at all. An M1928 Thompson would be apropriate. Otherwise, this is fantastically impressive work that I could not dream of imitating in even my wildest dreams. 1

First composition of the scene with figs They're ACModels, and I really like their expressive poses and modelling. As I like their heads less, I replaced them with Alpine heads except for the photographer. See you Fabrice 21
Fabrice Simon Posted May 28 Author Posted May 28 Hi ! Here's where I am with the piece as I put it on the CAMO table last week in Saumur internationnal show I tried to reproduce a ‘powdery breeze’ look on the top of the dune and at the feet of the figures, using a mixture of pigments. I've still got a few things to perfect, such as shadows that are too dark on the side of the dune, restoring the wires from the broken headlight bulb, which have regained their freedom , and this type of details (and remove the sten...) edjbartos Posted May 28 Posted May 28 That's a wonderful piece of work, on it's own, the truck and baggage looks fantastic but by adding it to a diorama with figures, just looks amazing, wonderful work, well done... Ed 1
APA Posted May 29 Posted May 29 That is a lot of 'stuff'. First rate painting on it all, love it and those figures are excellent 👍 Andrew 1
Fabrice Simon Posted May 31 Author Posted May 31 Thanks for the compliment, it's motivating. I've almost finished the dio
Fabrice Simon Posted June 8 Author Posted June 8 Hi all !! This time and with help from the Long Range Desert Group (LRDG) Preservation Society on FB, i have notably removed the coolant tube from the Vickers MG as the LRDG filled the coolant jacket with hypoid oil and didn’t use water to cool the guns. I think that i'm done with this little dio Hope you'll enjoy it See you soon with a Ford F-30 Fabrice 15 1
Keeff Posted June 8 Posted June 8 That looks fantastic! I like the base and the simplicity ..... Keith 😁 1 1
vytautas Posted June 8 Posted June 8 (edited) 1 hour ago, Keeff said: I like the base and the simplicity ..... Keith 😁 Truly, the simplicity of this diorama is captivating! Especially the simplification of all the details, maybe even primitiveness - for example, only two sticking wires with colored insulation and naked ends instead of the lamp... And there are a lot of such simplifications in this diorama! Vytautas Edited June 8 by vytautas 1
Stef N. Posted June 8 Posted June 8 C'est merveilleux!! Fantastic work Fabrice. I look forward to seeing your next project. 1

Only just now noticed that you have a No4 rifle in the rack on the left. Australia and New Zealand (T Patrol was Kiwi) carried on making and using the older snub-nosed No1 MkIII rifle throughout WW2 and that was the initial service rifle in British forces in North Africa. The No4 would only have been brought out by new drafts of British units during 1942. Swapping the muzzle piece would work without changing the whole rifle. 1
