Jon Bryon Posted May 1, 2024 Posted May 1, 2024 Morning all, Five weeks to the day since sprues were cut, here is Eduard's 1/48 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe in the markings of 105 Scorpion Squadron from 1953 or 1955 depending on who you believe. This was an amazing kit to build and everything went pretty smoothly until the MRP Super Clear Matt Varnish coat, which promptly went very chalky. I've not managed to fix it in lots of places. Lesson learned: VMS Matt is nicer, friendlier and gives a more lustrous finish. This is a Weekend boxing eligible for out of the box at Telford as the only addition were some seatbelts. The decals are notionally from fündekals but in the end everything was masked bar the squadron insignia. I'm pretty pleased with some of the tonal variation in the brown; much less so with the blue. This project was intentionally geared to a higher-contrast finish which I wanted to find pleasing to my eye rather than realistic. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. Jon 31
