So I picked up the 1979 Airfix P51B from Bovington model show ....checked it had a canopy ...tick👍

What a suprise when I got it home it was a P51D canopy. After pondering modifying bits of canopy?I put a call out on the wanted Forum and @Fatalbert....came to the rescue with a vacuform one.

Only I cut it all wrong ...sausage fingers and cocked it up.

So continued the build then I found out there was a chinese brand...cant remember which its packed away for the big house move.

Anyway it has two canopies the bubble malcom hood and a car door type?.

Stuck that one fettled it and volia one dodgy model.

Had some snags with silvering probably because I am a piso git ...tight as a gnats chuff..and used an old bottle of humbrol clear..

Its in the bin now.

Still ere tiz

Nice to see an old kit brought to life.

As I said recently on someone else’s post, I prefer the B/C variant over the iconic D variant, for inexplicable reasons.
On your next build, I recommend a gloss coat of some sort, before decals, which should go a long way towards eliminating the silvering.  Follow that up with a flat clear coat to go back to a dull look, according to your tastes or references.

TBH thats what I did only I think the Humbrol clear was off and the decals are 45 years old so you know it wasnt going to go well.

I have some stars and bars so might exchange them ....see how im feeling

The fact you got 45 year old decals to work is somewhat amazing as by that time, no matter how well stored there will probably be issues.  For really old decals, I usually hit them with a coat of Microscale Liquid Decal Film prior to use and then use the Micro Sol & Set products to make them behave.  Glad you fought this kit and won.  Thanks for sharing.
