For anyone building the Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer,  you may wish to know this. Parts B13, B14 and B27 make up a module to hold the nose weight, specified as 15g. Having just measured it, if you fill it to the brim with a product called "Liquid Gravity", which is sold by De-Luxe Materials, that is exactly 15g. I wonder if Airfix planned it that way or whether it's just coincidence. Anyway, whichever it is, knowing this may save you having to measure it,  as it will me when I come to do my RAF example.

Or make a mould and cast some lead/pewter.

Higher density,  so a few grammes more 😉

But why would I go to all that extra trouble  when I've just pointed out an obvious and easy solution?

Anyway, why revisit this now? Simply to say that the airframe is complete, the undercarriage is fixed, and there is no sign of tailsitting.

When it comes to noseweight I always remember the advice an ex-girlfriend once espoused about baby oil - too much is never enough! I hate tailsitters. I’d throw away any kit I’d made if it sat on its tail, regardless of the time I’d put into it.

I can only assume you are talking about the recent 2023 tooling, and not my 1994 tooling?!? :weep:

Sorry, only just seen this: you do assume correctly, I perhaps should have clarified that.

  • MikeC changed the title to Airfix 1/48 Buccaneer (Latest Tooling) - Nose Weight
