1/48 & 1/72 - Pilatus PC-9 by Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) - 1/72 released - 1/48 expected in 2025

Kovozávody Prostějov (KP) is to release new tools 1/72nd and 1/48th Pilatus PC-9 kits.

The release from the 1/72nd kits is expected in late May 2024.

I like the words "Royal Scale" for the 1/48th scale kits, expected (maybe) in Q3 2024. I also like the idea of a 1/48th PC-9 kit but to be honest the average quality of KP's latest productions is hardly encouraging. Time will tell.

As always you can expect several boxes with different camouflages. So all modelers interested in this type of aircraft will surely have a choice. The kit will be on sale at the end of May and again, you really don’t have to pay up front for this new kit, we make our own , there will be plenty of them and they will be available at all good retailers and E-shops.

I wonder what 'model processing using 3D technology' means for KP/AZ. Is that LIDAR use or simply 3D CAD or 3D printing of something?

Anyway it's great news to finally have so long neglected trainer aircraft. 

Cyprus, Ireland, Croatia - is already a difficult choice. Wonder what would be other options?

So far it was marketing bullshit only. We had a wave of 'CAD designed' kits and they never published real render of their kits. Which were made in their usual way.

The Bulgarian Air Force operates some PC-9Ms in a black and gold livery. Haven't seen one in person Ina while but they used to be quite shiny even years after delivery (back in 2007, if I remember correctly).

The SF260 has been declared by AZ/KP as developed with 3D tecnology. From what I know of that kit it's true that the Instruction leaflet has drawing realised with a 3D program and that is the only contribution of 3D tecnology to that kit ... After about three years something could be changed or ...

We should only hope that Mr.Muzikant has not acquired OzMods molds and replaced resin bits from that kit with injected parts. Proper AZ tooling should still be probably better.

In the case of AZ/KP, one thing has so far been certain - they will not overinvest. Instead of buying moulds it was easier to buy a kit and copy it in new resin moulds, including all the errors.

No. You can directly use parts of existing kit as a base for resin mould for injection. Such moulds are short lived but it's cheap technology, excellent for short run kits.

Well, obviously as they are planning both 1/72 and 1/48 they will not resort to scanning the (poor) models and then make moulds from those.🙄

I am hopeful for a decent model. I like the Irish PC-9s so that is one for the ever growing wishlist...

It looks like they already off to a bad start with their box art for the Cypriot version, 'Kyrenia' the aircraft illustrated & the only survivor of two delivers in 1989, is aircraft no. 901, not 902. That is a very cool scheme imho.

That is good news! Let's see how the molds turn out. I have Robinson helicopter from Stransky models and at least on the sprues it looks better than many (not all) AZ/KP toolings.

My confidence level in AZ/KP is none, so I'll believe it when I see it.
But if it's really Stransky's CAD, the kit should be theirs too, like the Bücker Bü 181s or Robinson R44. AZ/KP will just rebox it.

I feel that Stransky gave up issuing kits independently. No new kits recently and what was previously offered is now all reboxed by KP.

Hope so- the T-6C would need a slightly different canopy with extra forward hoop, the ventral strake, and a couple of aerials added. Forward of the firewall is all-new with different cowl / exhaust / spinner / prop.

 

Maybe an extra sprue/s down the track.

Looks like Saudi Arabia operates PC-21 - a more advanced type. Did they also operate PC-9 before?
