I stepped outside to breathe the air - Zvezda 1/48 MI-24V/VP - Finished

Recommended Posts

Just went through this thread and great work so far.  I am really interested in your build as I have the Eduard version of this kit and this is giving inspiration.  I did break down and get the rivet set for this kit (at almost the same price as the kit itself).  is this going to be one of your add-ons also?  Looking forward to the next installment.

Thanks very much,

I was going to get the rivet decal set but saw the price and decided against it.

I might use my riveting tool to give the impression but I'm not certain yet

Hopefully the final scheme will manage to take folks eyes away from the tail boom.

Cheers,

Alistair

I have been sticking the bumpy and lumpy bit on to this one.

After George mentioned the rivet decals last night I thought it would look much better with them on and so off on a search for the much cheaper Arma ones.

I'm glad to say I got them on the evilBay for a much cheaper price than Eduard are extorting and they should arrive early next week.

In the meantime there is a bit of seam work to be done especially on the cabin underside..

I'll get that dealt with bit by bit as I'm on nights tomorrow.

Thanks for looking,

Cheers,

Alistair

These arrived yesterday.

They seem really delicate and I'm going to need to be really careful not to flood them with paint.

Anyway back to working on the seams and i'll need to go and reread @The Spadgent's stunning build of this as he used these to great effect.

I hope he won't mind me using his build as a reference.

Thanks for looking,

I don’t mind at all. Quite flattered you like it enough to use as reference. 🤩

I remember this being a really fun build. It’s a shame you locked the gear head and engines away they looked lovely.  Stupidly I left all the panels open. 🤪

Tagging along if that’s ok. You’re doing a great job. Good luck with the rivets. Not that hard to put on really. 🙌

Nice work ... the engines look really good and I like the effects achieved.

Looking at bread bin scale, it's a bit of a beast!

Thanks Johnny and welcome aboard.

Closing all the panels and doors was a conscious decision as I'm hoping that the Tiger clawing it's way out of the side will be the eye-catching part.

She is looking great Alistair. Just caught up on this thread.  The idea of rivets is a good one,  seeing @The Spadgent build proves that.

Simon

Thanks very much Simon.

Time consuming but worth it in the end I hope.

I’ve just ordered a set of these myself, so will be very interested in how you get on with them.  Hats off to you Sir for having a go at these - they look like they could be very time consuming to do!

They do indeed look like they may take some time.

I'll give it a go.

Time for some glasswork.

Masked inside and out.

Then some interior colour on the insides.

The final bit of PE was placed.

bC06MBS.jpg

After that it was a matter of gluing bits in place in stages.

Last shot of the inside for a while.

I think the seams are all good but will need some paint to find out.

The pilots door was popped on with a few spots of PVA for ease of masking.

Either it's a big old beast, or you are messing with me and using a smaller Breadbin😉😄

Looking good Alistair, with thecanopies going on.

Chris

Thanks Chris,

Full size bread bin I'm afraid.

It's a big beast.

Nice masking work. Is that some Photo etch I spy in the middle of the canopies? I don’t think I heard that set. Looking great. 🙌

Thanks Johnny,

Masking kit though. Made life a tad easier.

The PE bit was part of the cockpit set.

I spotted it at the last moment, luckily.

Out to the garage this morning to get some primer laid down and while doing this my hand went into spasm and she dropped right on her nose.

The nose seam cracked but what was worse was there was something rattling about in the gunners compartment.

Back into the house and the gunner door join was carefully sliced with a scalpel and despite the TET that had been used to glue it down I managed to get it off without any damage to the clear part.

Gunners front console glued back in place and then the canopy was reglued and more PPP applied and then sanded.

Back out for more primer.

I'll take that.

Got lucky again.

Good to see that you’re not skimping on the test flight program.

It was a bit early in the program but traditions have to be upheld. :D
