Well as a bit of a MOJO restorer I am making a start on this one with York nearing completion hopefully by next week for Perth Scot Nat's and Great Western having some fit issues also other things from real life I need to get back at the bench but in short bursts with a puppy to train and not much time on my hands for now.

I know @Faraway built this kit a couple of years back when it first came out and I liked the look of it, so it has been in the stash for only a little while now and it looks like a short build one (Famous Last Words)

So made up the hull and some of the superstructure parts and the main guns for now we will see how far I can get with this out of the box.  :fingerscrossed:

Thinking of going with the green lower hull colour rather than the red oxide one.

G'day Beefy, this hasn't taken you long, and it looks quite a potent vessel.

I did a whiffed 16-gun Belfast a couple of years ago with a greenish antifouling lower hull for a bit of variety in the display cabinet. I can post a picture of it here if you wish so you can see what the colour scheme will look like. But obviously no need if you've already tried it.

Regards, Jeff.

With the history of this ship being built by the Italians I was going for the green because of that Jeff but put the Belfast what if up if you like gives me an idea of what to aim for in my colour range or if I need to get some supplies in.

I was also going to ask @Faraway Jon what colour did you use for the blue hull, the colour chart calls for a grey deck but I was thinking of doing the red brown linonium colour of modern Russian ships just for something different.

What do you reckon.  :book:

Looks like you're off to a good start. 👍

Nice lines - the bridge reminds me of a WWII Soviet 'Shchuka' class submarine.

Was thinking the very same - odd for a WW2 vessel

Keep it coming Beefster

I have always really liked Tashkent, the sophistication of its lines.

No wonder, Italian design has always been one of the most elegant.

BELF16g120 hull painted HMS Belfast 16gun jm2

Gidday Beefy, that second photo is probably the best I have showing the overall look. I can take another from a lower angle if you like but this should give you a bit of an idea.

I used Humbrol Hu31 for the antifouling colour. HTH.

Regards, Jeff.

Sorry Beefy, but I honestly can’t remember, and my WIP isn’t much use. This was from when I had just ‘found’ ship building, so my information was a bit lacking.

Hello. More correct transliterration is "Tashkent", in russian was "Ташкент", capital of Uzbekistan, former was UzSSR.

Emm, "Italian design"... This is a strange thing, Ducati multistrada (1st generation, i.e. 620) and Fiat multipla are proof of this. :)

Tashkent was built on an Italian shipyard in Livorno 11 Jan. 1937. When completed the destroyer was delivered October 1939 to the Black Sea fleet without guns. The Russian navy fitted Tashkent with arms shortly before the German army invaded Russia. 👍

Well a little time at the bench and started detailing the bridge with the kit PE

Then started to prime and paint the hull trying to get some panel lines added and then my compressor went ca-put going to see if the Machine Mart can repair.

To be fair it is 20 year old and has been used a lot.

My thoughts exactly. First time I've seen a curved structure like that...interesting.

With the caveat that I have not researched Italian anti-fouling colours, this is the sort of green that you seem to see on the bottom of models of Italian WW2 era warships in their museums:

Well new compressor is working fine could not get the old one repaired obsolete parts to old a bit like me.  :clif:

So going with as near to what @dickrd has posted Thank you for the excellent reference pictures I went with a NATO Green colour I had in stock this will not be seen much when in the water base anyway.

I then went for a blue which came from a pick and mix bag from @Jamie @ Sovereign Hobbies I think its an old B55 but the weathering and hopefully plating experiment should tone it down.

I will be using an old base frame Huron is looking a little tired so will be decommissioned spare parts put into spares box and scraped to make room and a bit of a size comparison the Tribal's were slightly smaller

G'day Beefy, Ooohh that PE looks fiddly as you say. That on the bridge/conning tower (now you've got ME think submarine 😁) does look good though. Good luck with the rest of it.
