Tamiya Fw-190D, 1/72

Fw-190D | Tamiya | 1/72

Waldemar Wubke, pilot | JV44, Ainring Airfield | March 1945

Finished this on 3/17/2024.  Not much to say about this one except it was a marvelous kit.  It's interesting that Waldemar Wubke was the pilot, since I built his Bf-109E-3 from earlier in the war, also.  I love the bright "don't shoot me down" colors on the bottom.  For those who don't know, these 190's protected the Me-262 on take off and landing. Since the early jet engines took time to spool up and spool down, the Me 262s were vulnerable to attacks from prowling allied fighters and so these Fw-190s were there to fend off any allied fighters that appeared.  The red bottom was to prevent the AA gunners from shooting down the defending fighters.

WIP is here.

Ive always preferred the 190 over the 109. Something just looks right about it. Your paint scheme of JV.44 is quite good by the way.

Thanks Dennis! I agree -- I've really become a fan of the 190 in the last few years.  My dad had only made a model of a 109, so I really didn't know a lot about the 190s growing up.  I like the 190A's better than the 190D's, because the 'D's seem kind of lanky looking.  They're growing on me though! :)

Excellent paintwork, sir. Makes me want to break out and build the kit that’s been in my stash for, like, forever.

Thank you Bill!  I'd love to see what you can do with a Fw-190! :wicked:  No pressure though. :D

Whoo! Seriously paint work going on here, that’s a lot of good work going on in a small scale, good job!

Thank you!  It is quite a challenge in 1/72 scale, for sure.

One of the best small scale Doras I've seen. Terrific paint work.

Thanks!  I really appreciate that!

As a fan of Radial engines I agree but the Dora has its own special look.

Checking my stash, I have Tamiya’s 1/48 Dora, and in 1/72 I have Hasegawa’s A-8 and D-9 versions. But I recently acquired the new 190D-9 by IBG Models (plus a bunch of aftermarket), so that’s the one most likely to get built.

Very nice! 👌

The paint scheme is rather colourful!

Just a great job on doing a difficult paint scheme correctly in this small scale.  It looks wonderful.  Thanks for sharing.

A really smart looking build, the paint job is spot on. 👍

I know that the white stripes in the Tamiya 1/48 kit are decals, is that the case with the 1/72 kit?

Fantastic work 👏👏

Sorry for the delay.... Yes, the 1/72 kit has the white stripe decals.  I just chose not to use them.
