Six97s Posted April 12, 2024 Posted April 12, 2024 (edited) A hangover from a past group build, this one sat because I wasn't happy with the wheels and tyres. I thought I'd started another thread in here since, but I can't find it, so here we are... Original thread: I was planning to use a set of Halibrand kidney bean wheels from an original issue kit, but they looked a bit undersize and I didn't have any tyres that looked right. Since I bought a 3D printer, I've spent many more hours drawing things than building, but it has produced some tangible results. I drew the early lip/bead laced 5.5x15 wheels and 6.40-15 front and 6.70-15 rear tyres, as fitted to the earliest cobras and still on CSX2000. Test print - a few spokes didn't make it, so tweaks needed. Edited May 12, 2024 by Six97s 8
Neddy Posted April 13, 2024 Posted April 13, 2024 Oh my. They look amazing, ditto the body - you've really captured the AC 289 look and the wheels suit the car perfectly. I've spent a lot of time looking at Hawk 289s (about the closest replica to the original you can get) and IMHO you've got it exactly right.
Six97s Posted June 10, 2024 Author Posted June 10, 2024 Flitting from one thing to another, as ever... following the observation from @rs2man that the steering wheel in the later reissues is incorrect for a MkI, I had a go at drawing the early type. It's a work in progress, but it's about there, just the indicator switch to add and final tweaks 5

Six97s Posted November 14, 2024 Author Posted November 14, 2024 A sudden burst of enthusiasm had me digging this out again. i had a rethink on the engine, so now it has stamped valve covers and a 3x2 intake, which was an over-the-counter mod available from Ford dealers. I still have to sort out the carbs and the air cleaner. Because I'd widened the engine block by about 2mm to correct it, I had to trim a little off the steering box to get it to fit, but at least it does fit now. There's some touch up required from reworking it, so it looks a bit untidy. 😶 I printed a MkI steering wheel, now I just have to remove it from the supports without breaking it. 5
Neddy Posted November 14, 2024 Posted November 14, 2024 Looking great so far! Lovely paintwork, I'm almost embarrassed to finish mine.

I’ve found, with some of the really fine prints I’ve done, that removing the subject from the supports before curing has helped with not breaking things. The resin can be quite flexible at this stage. That said, with the Sparco wheel I printed recently, I tried removing the supports both before and after curing and found after was fine. 🤷♂️ Martin 1

Six97s Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) I spent my spare time at the weekend drawing the carbs and the air filter. I've simplified or omitted a few details, because they either wouldn't resolve in printing, or wouldn't be seen. [i I'll try printing these tomorrow, along with a replacement steering wheel (or two). 😶 Edited November 18, 2024 by Six97s 4 1
Six97s Posted January 7 Author Posted January 7 Carbs fitted and painted. I've test fitted the engine in the car and to my relief, the bonnet closes without hitting the air filter. 😌 Exhaust manifolds need to be fitted now, so I can finish wiring it. 6 1
