DaveJL
Hello all, Here is my recently completed 1/72 Academy PBY-5A Catalina in the markings of a 'Black Cat' of VPB-71, Manus Island, 1944. E-68 was named 'Black Eagle' by its crew. The build thread is below. Extras used included: Eduard - Space 3D cockpit set and masks Brassin - MKXIII torpedo Printscale - Decals Quickboost - Propellors Paint is overall Tamiya XF-69 'Nato Black' over a base of aluminium, Blue Grey and Gull Grey, chipped back using hairspray. I had a lot of fun with the weathering across the airframe using a mixture of paint, Abteliung oils and AK pencils. Despite my best efforts, we have a tail sitter . Thanks for looking, Dave. 50

kalle
It's really nice model! The interesting thing is that I was just planning to put out a similar black cat, but now I'm going to wait a bit:) Kk
georgeusa
One of my favorite planes done in my favorite camo scheme for this aircraft. At some point in time, I will bite the bullet on my 1/48 Revell kit with slightly different "Black Cat" markings. I like how you portrayed the monotone black and weathered the finish as these birds definitely went through some rough stuff. Thanks for sharing and making me take the Revell kit out of the stash and looking at it again.

Ed Russell
Nice build and good restrained weathering. Good use of aftermarket bits where you can see them. About the only extra you could have used is this https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235046121-preliminary-inquiry-correction-for-academy-catalina/ Nice job!
