starfighter84 Posted March 2, 2024 Posted March 2, 2024 Hello to all! here my last work... an Air America PC-6 C/H2 from Roden (one of the most challenging kit that I ever faced). I converted the base kit to a "no car doors version" adding a new and corrected vacuformed windshield. Pilatus_15 by Valerio, su Flickr Pilatus_100 by Valerio, su Flickr I also used some aftermarkets like Quickboost propeller, corrected nose and exhaust, Eduard photoetched set and Wolf3Dresin.com main wheels and tail wheel 3D resin parts. Many other parts has been scratchbuilt or made by turned brass. The model has been completely riveted with Archer positive rivets. Pilatus_130 by Valerio, su Flickr Pilatus_132 by Valerio, su Flickr Decals from Mike Grant's, except for the registration marks painted using home made plottered masks. Hope you'll enjoy! Charles68 Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 That is amazing! I love seeing builds from kits that i never would have imagined anyone or any company putting to market. I could spend hours on a huge gray jet and visually not come close to this. 1
airbus320 Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Fantastic work on the model and the conversion! Chris 1
Andy Dyck Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 An outstanding masterpiece! Congratulations! Cheers Andy 1
binbrook87 Posted March 3, 2024 Posted March 3, 2024 Absolutely stunning! I made this kit some years ago and can concur it's a very tricky one to complete. Mine somehow ended up lop-sided with the alignment of the wings being all out of square...and from that point it never really looked right so I've hidden it away in the cupboard never too be seen again! Would love to have another go though one day... as you have shown with some hard work it can turn into a cracking looking model. Thanks for sharing! 1 1
TheyJammedKenny! Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Ciao! This is really superb, and if you had not included in-progress shots, many of us would have thought it a photo-shop image of the real deal. I've always had trouble with white paint, because it requires layering to overcome its lack of opacity. How did you paint this without causing excessive buildup near the windshield and other clear parts? What kind of paint did you use? 1
kalle Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 If you turn it black and white and add a little background, you might not understand that it is a model. That's how good it is! Kk 1
kev67 Posted March 4, 2024 Posted March 4, 2024 Very impressive build, must of cost a small fortune in rivets 1
starfighter84 Posted March 5, 2024 Author Posted March 5, 2024 (edited) Thank you all for your kindly comments! For all white surfaces I used the Mr.Finishing Surfacer 1500 White Gunze... it's a very good product, opaque and it can ben sanded to obtain a nice smooth surfaces. On the down side, it cause excessive buildup (as you said) around the frames of clears parts... so, on that zones, I used the Tamiya LP-2 lacquer that, in my opinion, has a fine pigment. I thinnered it with nitrocellulose thinner and worked perfectly. 23 hours ago, kev67 said: must of cost a small fortune in rivets Indeed. I spent more or less 60€ of rivets on a kit that worth 20€... but the most important thing was the final result! Edited March 5, 2024 by starfighter84 2 1
loloskymaster Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Very thin build and a perfect paint, Valerio ! I agree with you, sanding the white surfacer is perfect to get a smooth surface. And here is the result. Bravo! Lolo 1
SebTartar Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Wow! That’s some seriously nice stuff!! Well done! 1
Head in the clouds. Posted March 10, 2024 Posted March 10, 2024 Superb work on a lesser type of plane from an airline that does not serve serve pretzels in flight. Fine work on the rivets, you hit the nail on the head with your comment on the rivets costing 3 times more than the kit, how many of us have done that? 1
