Well this is going to be my take on the much heralded Airfix Seaking.

Don’t know if you all need another WIP on this model but this won’t be a bells and whistles build just adding a few AM bits, masks, seat belts etc, as always it’s just my way to relax after a day on the farm, a bit of ‘me’ time away from the stresses of the day ( TB tested 700 cattle today, results by Thursday).

Going to build a HU5 version but using Xtradecals XV705 of 771 NAS based at RNAS Culdrose 1996.

So here goes!!

King

A few bits stuck and holes drilled.

King

Close up of Eduards space 3D decal IP.

King

Adding a small strip of evergreen strip under the cushions to paint yellow to represent the emergency pack.

Seat

More sub assembly’s to do for the interior and then a bit of painting, see you soon,

Looking forward to this one.

I've got the kit lying up in the loft and I'm trying to get the courage up to do it.

Cheers,

Alistair

We definitely do.

Much heralded and definitely worthy of another WIP.

I shall pull up a seat (without an emergency pack!....nice work on fixing that) and watch with interest.

Looking good so far, can understand modelling to unwind from the trials of the day. From 700 head of cattle to 7000 head of rivets!

Enjoy...

Just started to lay down the first coats of paint, SMS dark grey and Tamiya NATO black to convey some anti slip mats, don’t know if it’s accurate but it adds a bit of a contrast.

Detail painting to follow and a lot more interior work to do.

Can't go wrong with a Sea King build! I don't remember if there was a non-slip floor in a Sea King, but then the SAR cabs (RAF and RN) had 'wet fit' floors in the cabin that covered most of that panel detail. Ah, yes - those yellow Personal Survival Packs (PSPs); having a single-seat liferaft attached to your posterior was handy, but after 2-3 hours the sheepskin comfort layer on top became pretty superfluous! Looking good so far, Matt.

Thanks Jonners, bit of artistic license going on here I’m afraid, saw it on another build and thought how nice it looked so cribbed it!!

Bit more progress today on the cockpit and cabin,

Seats

Added lap straps on the cabin seats that will be visible through the open doors.

Seats

Doubt if they will be visible at the end but plastic strip added under the seat to represent the emergency pack.

Cockpit

Eduard 3D decals for the IP, if there’s a next time I would probably just attempt to paint the IP supplied with the kit, just being a bit lazy, seatbelts also from Eduard.

Buttoned up and Eduard space cockpit sidewalls in place, the inner shell clipped into place without issue, outer skin next and she will start to look like a Seaking!

Looking very good!  👍

Nice detailing .... just enough in my humble opinion ...

Moving on quickly, fit is really good as long as you carefully remove the attachment tabs from the spruce and dry fit in advance of gluing.

Window blanking plates will need a bit of work to make them invisible, a lot of rivet detail around them needs watching.

Lots of bits nearly ready for painting, bit of a clean up needed and some more masking and then on to the primer, top glass in cockpit sprayed  Tamiya clear green.

Box

Going to fold everything up to save space, next job is to add a droop to the main rotors, wish me luck!

Coming along rather nicely.

Put mine on hold for a while, whilst I get some GB entries finished.

In the same boat Colin, got a couple of P51’s to do, so it’s slow progress!

That's looking really good @Farmerboy.  How are you planning to make the rotor blades droop? 🤔

Looking into the ‘ Wok’ and hot water method Keith, hopefully a gentle approach!

In the meantime just painted and fitted the over head console.

Second coat on and it doesn’t look good, too orangey for my liking, Humbrol 174 signal red, an old pot, so maybe that’s why?

Took all the masking off to see if it was optical, it wasn’t, so will re  mask and try another paint over the top!

Ooh, that's looking very air sea rescue .... my preferred scheme! 👌

The red looks ok in the pics, but then you're seeing it in more natural lighting.

How are you getting on with the rotor droop? 🤔

I’ve redone the red, much happier,

struggling with the droop ( no smutty jokes please 😂), looking at pictures where to make the bend is not as straightforward as I thought!

The door is being used as a mask, I didn’t miss!!
