DominikS
Hi! I have already asked the Uncle G. search engine for this and found some answers but they are not clear enough for me. So, what I know is that the voltage regulator was not installed on the back of the frame where it can be found on Mk. IX or V, for example but was moved to the portside. But where exacly? I found a drawing which shows it installed above (?) air bottles. On the other hand Eduard made Mk.VIII brassin cockpit and gave the vr below the "door". Which is correct? And the other thing is the shape. Was it tha same as in Spitfire Mk.IX but relocated or was it a box similar to the one used on early Mk.Is? Thank you for any help. Dominik From the AP, the Mk VIII had a type F voltage regulator mounted low down on the port side between frames 11 & 12 (numbered from the front, frame 11 has the seat mounted on it)
Biggles87
I always assumed that the voltage regulator was moved to the port sidewall on low backed marks only because of the changed shape of frame 11, but I could be wrong and often am. John
Work In Progress
Once you've moved it, you may as well standardise on a single solution that works for all variants
BS_w
read in Spitfire Mk VIII manual " a carbon pile voltage regulator, type F, is mounted on the port side of the fuselage aft of the electrical panel."
Alex Gordon
I don't recall where I found this image but it is a crop from the Pilots Notes for the VII/VIII. It is in the same location on the XVIII. Edited September 20 by Alex Gordon Adding a bit.
