Ford Escort MkI Mexico 1/24

Recommended Posts

I did this one late in 2022. Basically it's the Belkits Escort with a resin chassis and engine. The rest of the engine bay is scratch built and spares box. Motobitz wheels and decals. Interior floor is part of the chassis which makes the interior a bit deeper and it's a lot easier to get the body and chassis together. Seats are resin items, I also added carpet from flocking, it's all black in there so a bit hard to see anything 🙄

Overall, a really enjoyable build.

Where did the chassis, engine and decals come from?

Thanks Keith. The chassis and engine (this is just the block/head and g'box) was from Richard Griffiths. Richie is not on Britmodeller as far as I know. He can be found on Facebook and he also runs the IPMS F1 & Motorsport SIG, again on Facebook. He does have a lot of resin parts for MkI and MkII Escorts. I used his Pinto engine for the MkII Mexico I built alongside this MkI.

The decals are from Motobitz.

Gorgeous model of my favourite ever car - cracking build Steve!

Colour looks very much like Maize Yellow? I had a fully prepared Mk1 Mex in that colour - it was never as clean as your model though!! It was a four year old car when I bought it and it was as rotten as a pear!! Loved it though!

Absolutely stunning work!

Thanks Keith. It is supposed to be Maize Yellow. I think it is maybe a tad dark but it looks quite nice to my eye. This model was actually inspired by a car I saw on a google search, so its a sort of replica, even down to the reg number. I get the plates made by a chap on ebay. They are self adhesive vinyl and really nice items.
