corsaircorp Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Hello Folks.... I'm not supposed to start a new thread this year.... I have too much of started kits.... But amazingly, the old Mojo was in bad need for something different..... The rest is to be followed..... Same old song.... Boosting an old short run kit with the help of a more modern one.... I received some pics on my FB page depicting this Vought.... Vought ?? You say Vought ?? No more justificatives are needed... This one will be finished with Yellow wings.... But neutrality patrols ??? This one, as it will be seriously butchered will be finished as a V-156F Yes with French colors.... @Heather Kay will be pleased.... I don't know if they made it over my village 80 years ago but whatever..... And now the Fleet Air Arm will be represented too.... Obviously my Dear.... I think that @Dunny is the one that showed me that kit..... And last but not least.... The poor Vindicator has the sad privilege of having been butchered by both the Germans and the Japanese.... No need to tell you that the Academy kit is the Accurate miniature one..... And Hooops, I started to spray paint on it years ago..... Look like Alclad whithout primer.... But the HIPM will be another hard challenge More to come tomorrow..... I know @giemme, I'm a nutty... Sincerely. CC 11 5 1
bigbadbadge Posted February 2, 2024 Posted February 2, 2024 Crikey CC 4 of them , you certainly do it in style. Looking forward to seeing these progress especially the Chesapeake. Chris 1 1
Dunny Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Nice one Alain - will follow this with interest! Cheers, Roger 1
corsaircorp Posted February 3, 2024 Author Posted February 3, 2024 Thank you Chris and Roger... I'll try not to mess it up too much.... Sooooo, in white, we have the floor as it has been figured by HIPM beside the AM parts.... AM parts that are not flaws either..... Sink marks and ejection pins.... I'll cheat a lot in this thread.... First, I'll source an engine for the HIPM one, then check my files because there has ben an engine change in the Vindicator carreer..... Ah here are more choice than the USS Ranger neutrality patrol.... That will be funny !! I start the HIPM one now and will finish it with the third AM one.... Comments are welcome, thread drifting and bantering will be business as usual.... Have a great modelling week end !! CC Huh, be reassuired, I also worked on the Raptor, sabre and Sea Fury..... Ho wait, again an evening work week ?? Starting sunday.... Fine, let's go.... Sincerely. CC 9
2996 Victor Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 Ha ha! In on page one, so a front row seat near the bar, please Alain! You're certainly not afraid to go in at the deep end, starting four at once! All nice subjects, too. I hear the AccMins/Academy kit is a good one. I've thought about getting one or two myself, so I'll be watching your builds closely. Hope the shoulder is well on its way to being mended, and that the mojo gets its required boost (I know mine could do with a boost, too!). Cheers, Mark 1
The Spadgent Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 *Opens door. what’s going on in here? A new thread? A new build? A CC build? Of course there are four kits going to the construction/ butchers block. 😍🤪🤗 what’s better than one kit? You guessed it. 😇😇😇😇 I’m pretty sure I have a vindicator and I think it’s an accurate miniatures one. I’ll have a look. I’ll tag along and join in the fun if that’s ok dear friend. Hope that shoulder is feeling better and the mojo is running rampant. I’ll have a nice Trappist if you’re at the bar. 😉 Johnny 1 1
Brandy Posted February 3, 2024 Posted February 3, 2024 I'll take a seat at the bar for this one too. It has to be at the bar because this may take some time...... Ian 1 2

The shoulder want some rest but it is quite not the time for that, let's push forward.... Mumble mumble.... I restart an evening work week.... Weeelllll, Accurate miniature... Itried the kit on a plan and the dimensions are quite right Let's use it for the HIPM one.... Some AM kits are right, mine is not.... Eagle eyed among you have spotted the problem ?? A bit more evident on this pic..... May I send the fuselages to our Zeppelin specialist @Martian In my mind Zeppelins have smeared a bit on the wind indicators.... Oh come on CC, maybe that's done purpotedly ?? And now way to hide it under the medical tape.... On the Midway one , yes but not here on a silver painted one.... I'm still sandind yeaaaa yeaaa The tail of the HIPM one ?? Will be easily fixed... I then will gather some courage and going to check the 2 other kits..... Have a great modelling sunday !! And stay warm.... I'm going to work. Sincerely. CC 10
The Spadgent Posted February 6, 2024 Posted February 6, 2024 Good luck with the sandin’ and a fixin’ Alain. Alas it’s an Avenger that I have the kit for. Regardless I’m going to love watching these beauties get fashioned. 🤩🤗 Glad the shoulder is getting better, sad the work has started. 😩 Johnny 1 1
MOK61 Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 This is going to be interesting. I've made it into the front row and I've brought sandwiches. 1 1
corsaircorp Posted February 7, 2024 Author Posted February 7, 2024 Hello Gents ! It is what I like in starting a new batch of kits... Learning and learning again.... By luck, I didn't rectify the tail unit of the HIPM kit..... Seemingly, AM missed the point for SB2U-3..... the -3 was created for use by the Marines... And the tail unit is modified (enlarged) on these birds... Seemingly the Marines like it with a bigger tail.... Soooo, looking for clues now.... Well, on the fuselage front.... The second AM kit is messed up too.... So, I guess that the Academy one will suffer from that same sink marks.... Fixing it is not so easy.... First step is done.... More to come next week, today we get at restaurant for my son's birthday... Then 3 more evening work days... Back at the bench sunday.... Sincerely. CC 8
2996 Victor Posted February 7, 2024 Posted February 7, 2024 Good spot on the differences with the -3 fin and rudder! Hope you all have a great time today and a very happy birthday to CC Junior. Cheers, Mark 1

giemme Posted February 8, 2024 Posted February 8, 2024 Boy, you have your hands full with these, Alain! Ciao 1 1
corsaircorp Posted February 16, 2024 Author Posted February 16, 2024 Hello Gents, I used the same cunning plan than on the Avenger... Gluing the floor on an half fuselage in order to rework the internals more easily... Sincerely. CC 8
bigbadbadge Posted February 17, 2024 Posted February 17, 2024 Interesting differences CC. Good idea re attaching the floor to work on Hope your son had a great Birthday. Chris 1

My main fear is making a good interior and then, being unable to close the fuselage.... Guess how I know it ??? Well, well, while I'm studying the details about the differents types os SB2U... I managed to do that... And some other thingies.... As the sun was back at work today, We took a walk in the forest with my good Lady.... And we found this.... First ones for 2024.... Have a great modelling sunday !! Sincerely. CC 7
corsaircorp Posted March 31, 2024 Author Posted March 31, 2024 Hello Dears, I took a profile of the enlarged tail fin !! Wait for it.... Save your Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.... All the easter bunnies are not friendly.... Happy Easyer to you all !! See you on Wednesday.... Evening work week take its toll.... Sincerely. CC 3 7

The fourth box art in your opening post is incorrect. The Mogami class cruiser has the guns of her second turret at zero elevation while trained directly forward. This wasn't possible in WW2. This probably won't affect your build though. 😁 (I'll get my coat). Regards, Jeff. 2 2

I'm not an expert, zero elevation for such a big gun can just be useful while the barrells are cleaned up... Let's explain Jeff, even if that will not affect my build at all. Sincerely. CC Whoooops, Sorry Jeff, the penny dropped... If it was possible, I did not sign up to serve in turret one.... CC 2
ArnoldAmbrose Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 1 hour ago, corsaircorp said: Let's explain Jeff, even if that will not affect my build at all. G'day, as built those ships were armed with fifteen 6.1-inch guns in five triple turrets, with turret spacings to fit the length of the guns. In about 1939/40 (pre-Pacific war) they all were re-armed with ten 8-inch guns in twin turrets. These guns were longer and hence the guns of the second turret didn't fit in the space between the first and second turret. When trained forward the gun muzzles of the second turret rested on the rear top lip of the first turret. Since the box art shows combat it must be during the war, hence she's fitted with the longer 8-inch guns. Therefore the guns of the second turret couldn't be at zero elevation when trained directly forward. But don't let this affect your aircraft builds though. I'm just being picky. 🙂 Regards, Jeff. 2 1

Picky ? Not to me... Thanks for the explanations, I didn't knew that.... And learning things is always interesting for a nosey bird like me.... I suppose that the Mikuma received the same modifications ?? Sincerely. CC 1

I've also read that they were designed for the gun upgrade from the beginning, which makes me wonder why the extra length of the 8-inch guns weren't factored in with the spacing between turrets 1 & 2. Apologies if I've caused a thread drift. Regards, Jeff. 1
