  • Homebee changed the title to 1/48 - Fairey Gannet AEW.3 by Sword Models - box art+3D renders - release in 2024

Oh cool. No obvious CAD of a folded wing... I wonder if they will include it. Also wonder whether the Airfix kit makes the timing ideal or terrible (are more people likely to want a matching set or not want to build two gannets?)

Wehn I asked Airfix about an AEW they alluded to it being too different and not enough users to tempt them, so good luck to Sword.

Now they need to do My 1/48 RF-8 !

I can imagine, what with it needing to be essentially a completely new kit; and yet perhaps with some of the potential market drained by the AEW. There can't be any need to rush this out to beat Airfix to it, so I perhaps an upscale of the 72nd kit has been in the works for a while.

They had the same reasoning when I tried to get them to do a narrow-chord wing in the 1/48 Sabre kits. I both cases I'd say they have misjudged the market.

Incidentally, this is the mark I associate with 'Gannet' so good luck Sword. I'd umm'd and aah'd over the Airfix kit but the Sword version will be a definite purchase.

I think you are right on both counts Duncan.

I think there might have been a bit of anxiety on Sword's part.

Then again I have no idea how quickly they can switch projects.

Wonder is this was the planned tooling from the old Classic Airframes kit that never saw the light of day?

@Graham T  Sword kits generally speaking aren't as straightforward a build as say Airfix, but they fun and involving, good modelling in my eyes.

Their 48th Meteor 14 is nice.

This is such great news, I don't know what to do with myself!

100% agree. I love Sword kits.

Looking forward to this one, personally I think it complements the Airfix kit really well and will fill the hole in so many cold War FAA projects.

Depending on the price I may have to get 2, 1 to use with the CTA "Ark Royal Sixth Commision" decal and another to wear HMS Eagles' Chinese Mahjong fin emblem.

If it has a wingfold, I will get one, I do not want to make this and end up putting it in the loft as its to big to put alongside my 3 airfix gannets

I am far, far, far from the best modeller on the planet, but I was able to get this from a Sword kit.  I look forward to the Gannet AEW3.
