Popular Post Dunny Posted January 21 Popular Post Posted January 21 Hi All, My first completion of 2024 is Revell's mighty Halifax, which I chose to complete as NA242 of 192 Sqn RAF, based at RAF Foulsham in 1945. 192 Sqn were part of 100 Group, and these aircraft were fitted with various Electronic Warfare installations, including Mandrel. As well as the normal crew complement these aircraft also carried a pair of Special Operatives who were responsible for operating the equipment. The aircraft had completed 55 missions when this photo was taken, and survived the war. Here's a photo of NA242 (copyright Australian War Memorial - image for discussion only and will be removed on request: You may note that the aircraft carries some rather extensive nose-art, which I created using a combination of stencils and self-printed decals. Here's the WIP if anyone is interested: The kit was an absolute joy to build - the engineering and detail were superb, and I added an Eduard etch set along with a mask set and some lovely Freightdog wheels. You may or may not know that this kit is OOP, so I am very grateful to @tomprobert for agreeing to part with his kit and all the goodies. Thanks also to Nigel @T-21 who provided a wealth of detail on 100 Group Halifaxes which was most educational in details of the EW installation. Anyway, on with the pictures! Here's a pic during construction to show the interior detail: Here's a final shot with a double dose of mighty Bristol power: I have thoroughly enjoyed this build, and it's nice to finally have a Halibag in the collection. Thanks to all those who have offered kind words and encouragement along the way - it has been much appreciated! Thanks for looking, Roger 95 5
Jay Gee Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Beautiful job Roger, especially the stencil and decal work on the nose art too. 1

I really need to build the resupply kit and do some sort of tableau, much like your lovely RFI background... 1 1

M.T.Dolby Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Superb work! I agree with you about the kit - aside from the small wheels it’s a superb kit, well engineered and a very enjoyable build. But this above all others has been an inspiration in how to achieve a scheme even when there are no aftermarket decals available. And it’s been really enjoyable following it through the WIP! Bravo 👏🏻 😊 Matt 1 1

I am glad that others also appreciate it, Cheers, Roger

tomprobert Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Lovely, Roger - and it’s great to see it finally built after languishing in my stash for so long! Tom 1
Col Walter E Kurtz Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Thanks for showing this Hallibag Roger! Once again you've made a superb model. The weathering and colouring is second to none I'm quite interested in 100 Group and recently presented a history talk on Zoom for an educational charity where I talked ,in part, about their exploits. The game of 'cat and mouse' with the German defences is a very interesting story. The countermeasures and then counter-counter measures deployed makes fascinating reading! Kind Regards, Andy 1 1
P-3s rule Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Superb build Roger! My great uncle Tom was a bomb aimer/ front gunner on 466 sqn RAAF based at RAF Driffield in Yorkshire ...on Halibags. He flew one sortie, then the war ended! I plan to build his B. III in 1/72 one day. 1 1
Cees Broere Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Great build of the underrated (not by her crews) Halifax. Wonderful. Could do with a 1/48 kit or even a 1/32. 1 1

Well, the Poles didn't like it, and the Canadians were pleased it was replaced by Lancasters, though of course much of the criticism was directed at the Merlin-engined variants. I think the crews generally had a pretty good idea. Don't get me wrong, I like the Halifax. As an ex-Handley Page apprentice, I suppose I can't say anything else! But it wasn't as good as the Lanc. Which did mean that it offers much more variety for the modeller, both in shapes and in widespread use. 1 1
mick b Posted January 21 Posted January 21 (edited) Another excellent result Roger, fantastic work on the nose art. Personally I’m not convinced by the shape of the nose glazing? It may just be me but it looks either too swept up on the lower half or too bulbous on the top half if you get my drift? It may just be the angles of the photos. Compare the shape to the photo you provided, looks more symmetrical top and bottom of the central frame? Mike Edited January 21 by mick b 1
