This question has probably already been answered...but I'm lazy sometimes...

My SMER Morane Saulnier MS 406 released in 2006 (new box) is a direct descendent of the 1965-1988 Heller kit.  This is a according to Scalemates.

Also, I have a SMER Dewoitine D500/501 that dates back to the 1977-79 Heller kit.

These are ok to build for this?  I have some lovely decals for these (and another Heller D500/501, still in the box).

I think Scalemates is correct, yes?

John,

Both are eligible.  We look forward to your build threads.

Thank you Wez...I will have to cannibalise some RS Model decals for the Swiss 406...I hope that's alright.

Absolutely fine, John, any extras or AM is perfectly acceptable!

Ahem. :giggle:   Wasn't going to say anything 'til the build started in case anyone thought I was cuckoo! :mental:    BUT I have already received a version of those without the PE from the big H.  .

Eduard 672173.    I also ordered some top cowlings with a slight bulge 672124.   Less worthwhile imo than the radiators.  Sorry for not sharing before.  Not sure my skills will make it worthwhile but the fun is in the trying.

Cheers

One of the reasons I was a bit gung-ho about being able to cut and replace the cowling was that I got one of these for Christmas

I probably come under the heading of having "All the gear, but no idea!"   But first impressions seem promising.  So, as I'm doing 2 of the Mk XVIs the first will be savaged, and if not successful I can do the second without the mod.  :giggle:

cheers

Why would anyone think that, Rob? :wicked: Seriously, though, I'm having a hard time not going down the aftermarket route (apart from the replacement decals, of course) as this is such a lovely kit that it really does deserve some extra love. Might I suggest exhausts as well?

In my case, I want the nostalgia hit so it and its brethren will be built as it would have back in my yoof (but hopefully a bit better!).

That's a snazzy-looking piece of kit! I'll be very interested to see how it performs - if it goes well I may have to invest in one..... :)

You know you'll find it hard to resist! :wicked:

I think it was Bill @perdu who first brought it to my attention, but don't know how he's getting on with it.  But if the renowned wielder of the SIHRSC (think that's right :hmmm:) thinks it's worth a shot, then ......... who am I to argue :idea:

I have only tried 2 of the 8 different shaped heads as yet.  A rounded one was great for sanding the edges of spitfire wheel wells (vintage 1974 Airfix Mk V not in a build thread which I'm doing for practice) where I'd added some filler.  And a pointy one is great for getting into tight areas that are usually harder to sand effectively.

I would like to stress that I'm not on commission, here!  It's a little pricey, but I do see potential

cheers

Juste au cas où quelqu'un building the Spitfire Mk.XVI has a hankering to correct the radiators, these are available from the usual suspects (e.g. Big H).

Cheers,

Mark

@Enzo the Magnificent

@Andwil

@Zephyr91

@Wez

Ordered, along with the resin cowling and a pile of other stuff to bring the total up to the big H’s minimum for overseas shipping.  Cost me many times over the cost of the kit!

But it'll be so worth it! Looking forward to seeing a bells and whistles build that shows how good this kit can be.

Cheers, this is the subject btw in a way left field for me, in another it’s in raf camouflage, it’s almost cheating. Anyway won’t be starting either etendard or this at the weekend, modelling room (and room with big chunk of models near the window) is having new windows Monday so got a load of moving to do 134902-11036-pristine.jpg

Good luck with that, should make it nice and cosy once completed - make sure they can't damage anything!!

Yep, two ikea bookshelves full of diecast and builds have to be moved just in case, plus a load of builds on shelves under a window need to go into my draws under the bench/on the bench, I’ll probably damage a few doing that.  It has to be done, the seals have gone on the window had no end one problems with condensation and mold but still a logistical pain

I'm still waiting for the postman to deliver my little 2CV  kit, but I have procured a second entry for this GB:

20250116-091414.jpg

According to Scalemates this kit dates from 1979 so I reckon it is allowed 🙂

I haven't build any model car kits for a very long time (the 1/8 Volvo 122S I have ongoing isn't really a plastic kit and it poses very different challenges). The 2CV is meant to be a wreck, but I plan to build this little Trèfle as a regular proper car, so I hope I can do it justice.

I'm sorting out the paint requirements now.

Excellent choice - such a fantastic little car! Looking forward to this one very much!

Dear All,

with approx 38 hours to go, I wanted to just say that I'll be away over the weekend for my daughter's birthday - diabolical timing, I know :doh: I won't be able to update the build list effectively thanks to the inadequacies of my decrepit telephonic device, but I'll be checking in regularly to see your builds starting off!

Good luck everyone!

Cheers,

Mark 👍👍👍

 Don't worry and enjoy your daughter's birthday ..

As far as I am concerned I have an Eduard Mustang to finish before I start any work on my MD450 Ouragan ...

Best regards

It's all right Mark, as co-host I'm sure everything will be alright in my capable hands, what could possibly go wrong?  :whistle:

Hang on - I thought the build starts tomorrow?

"The Heller Classic Group Build runs from 00:01 on the 18th January 2025" - isn't that 1 minute past midnight tonight?
