Not sure what markings it will get- I’m leaning towards a Finnish or Swedish Winter War subject….

Probably the best option Bill I always thought those wheels look odd.

Wot, not the Dowty internally-sprung wheels???

@RD1 those Winter War schemes are great. The whole idea of the Swedish Volunteer Regiment is a fascinating slice of history.

Taking the advice of @Mjwomack I have a couple of photos of my started Heller Connie. The wings, rudders and horizontals have been cemented as well as the wheels. So I will leave it up to the authorities @2996 Victor @Enzo the Magnificent to give the yeh or neh. I have a good photo of the new Heller decals for @Mjwomack, they are a big improvement over the old ones. So here’s the pics, I have a lot of extra parts!

Hi Jeff,

While you've certainly got the heftiest chunks of plastic together already, I'd say that you're still well within 25% of the total parts count! Wouldn't you agree, @Wez? Set up your build thread and you're good to go.

Cheers,

Mark

Agreed, good to go there's still a fair chunk of modelling to be done there!

Hi Pat.

Yep, aware of that, just confused (as usual) by box end and product no., as it is for 1988 issue, but is same sprues etc. Thanks for your help.

Cheers,

Chris.

Not exactly the same Sprues as the Mistral Fuselage and Intakes are different hence the different Product Numbers for the Mistral and the Vampire.

After much searching I found my PZL and also this

IMG-2210.jpg

As well as a bagged but otherwise unidentified one 1/72 Dewotine D.520 that I can’t place it. The part numbers are molded to the inside of the parts like a lot of very old heller kits.  The wings are molded as a two piece l ft and a right but if I look on  scalemates the heller kit is a three piece left/right/single piece lower and the Frog/Novo is a five piece left/right/lower centre/lower outer left/lower outer right.

It’s a fairly crude molding so not a Hasegawa and the sprue configuration is of a very old kit, any ideas?

Apropos of nothing very much, what is the general consensus on the 1/48 RF-84F Thunderflash kit?

TIA,

My opinion...   It was first released in 1979 so is definitely eligible for this GB.  I built it in 1980.  It is a typical Heller product of that era with raised panel lines and simple details in the cockpit.  I can't speak to the accuracy of the shape but the finished model is big and beefy and looks like a Thunderflash.  It definitely has a certain presence.   I just wish that four and a half decades ago I had had sufficient skills to produce a realistic NMF finish that I do now.  Brushed Humbrol silver did not show the model to its advantage.

Thanks, Enzo, I was thinking of looking out for one to build "sometime" as part of my reconnaissance aircraft theme. The Tan Models kit seems to have all but disappeared.

The simplified cockpit and wheel bays are easily rectified in 2025 with aftermarket replacements.  SAC offer a white metal undercarriage which may be useful considering that a kit with a fair amount of resin may be a bit heavy.  Personally I would live with the raised panel lines.  The Heller decals would likely no longer be viable but Berna provide some wonderful options, at least for French aircraft.

Wow!  Less than a week to go and we have at my count (I had to take my socks off to help here), 57 valid build threads for 59 kits, phenomenal!

I'm going to add a couple later...

Thanks again, Enzo, I think I'm sold on the idea!

Mark @2996 Victor and Wez @Wez, here's something to ponder.

Being impatient to build something, and not wanting to wait til the start of this GB, I was diving in the depths of the stash boxes looking for a simple divertisement when I came across something I'd totally forgotten about!  It's not on my spreadsheet so not "officially" counted in the stash.

But I wonder if Heller Cadet is eligible for this GB?  I don't remember buying this but looking at Scalemates the box is 1986 and the mould dates from 1966.

I present a 1:300 scale Concorde for your perusal

Seems to be complete, and the decals might work.  What do you reckon ?   I don't have a single airliner in my so-called collection so this could be a first!

The big challenge for me is getting the gloss white finish to look good.

cheers

Hi Rob,

It's a Heller mould first released before 31st December 1985, so it's definitely eligible! :)

Looking forward to seeing this one under way!

I recently saw the thread about another early D520 kit, but can no longer find it so hopefully the original poster will read this, or someone else can point me to it.  It was said to be clearly an early tooling, and different from both the Frog and Heller.  I've looked in the 1971 and 1973 issues of Scale Models Plastic kits of the world, and there is no third 1/72 tooling there.   (AMT being a Frog reboxing.)  Any more for any more?

I've checked John W. Burns' In Plastic WW2 Aircraft Kits from 1993 and the only 1/72 scale D.520s mentioned are FROG and Heller and their various reissues (FROG as Air Lines, AMT, Bienengraber, DFI, Minicraft, Minix, Novo and Novoexport, Heller as Buzco and Smer) as injection moulded kits and a Czech resin kit.

I wonder if anyone has the giant kit of HMS Victory in their stash? I saw a build review of this in Scale Models back in the 1980s and it was pretty epic.

This question has probably already been answered...but I'm lazy sometimes...

My SMER Morane Saulnier MS 406 released in 2006 (new box) is a direct descendent of the 1965-1988 Heller kit.  This is a according to Scalemates.

Also, I have a SMER Dewoitine D500/501 that dates back to the 1977-79 Heller kit.

These are ok to build for this?  I have some lovely decals for these (and another Heller D500/501, still in the box).

I think Scalemates is correct, yes?
