According to a comment on Facebook from one of the owners of Tarangus, they are working on the Swedish B 18 bomber in 1/72 scale. "We hope to be finished this spring."

Is it known what medium it will be? - resin, injected or 3D print? I have in stash SAAB B18 by Broplan (vacu) , I am a bit afraid that now it will lost a bit its sex-appeal....

At first I thought giving it a miss as I'm kind of interested in post-wwii aviation primarily... but then... retired in 1959! What??? And replaced with Lansen

Hmmm. And that one does not seem a big aircraft. And it does not seem that ancient with front wheel undercarriage, DB engines and overall nice shapes. Something like a Swedish Mosquito version. I'm getting more interested...

This should be great- wonder if it’s another joint venture with Special Hobby like the Viggen, it would be their sort of project too.

Tarangus are only making injected kits. So this is certainly good news!

Perhaps I would rather say: Swedish Do 17Z.  The shapes are not that elegant like those of Mosquito. BTW - the initial series machines have radial PW Twin Wasp engines, the DB came after WW2 times.

Well, elegancy too is in the eyes of the beholder, but if you put Mosquito wings on a Do-17 you do get pretty close.

I agree with @RidgeRunner A handsome airplane, and since I never got the excellent Broplan vacform when it was available, I will definitely be looking to get this one!

As I understand Tarangus is designing and selling kits but actual plastic molding is contracted with Czech firms. For 1/72 Tunnan and Lansen were very much resembling Sword kits and Viggen is obviously molded in co-production by Special Hobby.

In that sense I wonder who will mold B18 for Tarangus? Sword or SH or anybody else?

I don't think that this is a Special Hobby co-operation, so my guess is that this will be made by the same company that made Tunnan and Lansen. I don't know which, but I guess Sword too.

Yeah. I can recognise Sword plastic from 100 meters. Bluish grey colour often with somewhat glossy surface, quite characreistic very subtle and mostly detailed and correct panel lines, almost good fit (but in some places you'll be ready to throw kit away), clear transparencies (in some cases 1-2 mm wider than fuselage), finally some parts just have to be clumsy or oversimplified (for some reason Sword almost always molds single part front gear together with wheel and simplyfies engine face in the exhaust trunking to the extent it becomes useless piece of plastic). I hope you see I'm totally in love with Sword kits. My favourite manufactuter :)

Is the any word as to whether it will be the A or B version, I quite fancy a B with the DB 605s.

Steve.

I'd like to know this as well.  I'm pulling for an "A" model as I could finally do a Recon bird.  Will be welcome no matter what.

Sweden had ordered Do 215s but they were overtaken by the Luftwaffe. A-model was equipped with Twin Wasp engines as DB605 were not available.

Cheers,

I guess that they will do the same as for the B 17; a B 18B release, and a separate B/S 18A release only containing the necessary parts. Maybe another boxing. I would love to see a T 18B, the most good-looking version of them all! :)

Note that a License production agreement for the DB 605 was in place as early as in 1942. Delivery of the first engines from Germany came in 1943, license production became delayed however, and the first B 18B reached units first in 1945.

The Bofors autocannon? I read they had big troubles practicing with those, as they completely obliterated all the practice targets…

I think I need both (1/72 and 1/48) if and when they arrive. Have always had the B18 in the back of mind after watching a Swedish drama television series in the early 70ies (as a child in Denmark) on Swedish television about the crew of B18 trying to survive in the North of Sweden after crashing in their B18. Any Swedish members  here who remember what it was called and whether it is available for viewing anywhere?

The only thing I remember about a B18 was with the drama "Tre kärlekar" that run on 8 episodes during 1989. A replica B18 was built, and for many years this was displayed at Flygvapenmusem in Linköping.

The Drama is possible to see on SVTPlay here:

https://www.svtplay.se/tre-karlekar

But it's viewable in Sweden only.
