The 1/72 Mig-23 ML seems to have escaped the above list

I'd noticed that

Direct competition with Clear Prop or reissue of Clear Prop molds under ICM brand name?

But the ICM kit wouldn't cost an arm, three legs and a kidney!

Seems we'll just have a nice choice between expensive mega detailed kit with huge pe fret and 3 sheets of stencils and not so expensive but still high quality kit with just plastic in the box.

I'll take the latter please

Me too, definitely. With one remark - I don't like to convert the ML (which everyone has been strangely insisting on lately) into the MF (much more popular in real life), of which there is still no decent 1/72 kit on the market.

Isn't this the one that was announced in 2022? Then seemingly disappeared from their 2023 programme following the events in Ukraine.

It's not a new listing (if you search Hannants with items added in last week, it's not there), as most items are.

Just wondering - how bad is the RV/KP series of MiG-23/27 kits? I know it's not at all new and RV/KP quality is hmmm... questionable. But is that totally complete crap or something you can actually start with?

And another thought:

MF/MS is the version for many Middle East conflicts and Warsaw Pact users.

ML and derivatives is good for Afghanistan, post-USSR users including Ukraine (where both ICM and Clearprop come from), and some conflicts too.

There is also bomber version B/BN (and MiG-27) that is even better for numerous Middle East wars.

Maybe it has disappeared following Clearprop MiG-23ML release?

The RV/KP is by far the best 1/72 on the market and is somewhere in my stash waiting to be built. 40 years ago I built a -23ML (I modified the fin and landing gear) and a -27 from Hasegawa - from today's point of view they can be called Flogger caricatures at most. After a few years, I managed to sell them as part of some large collection of Soviet aviation. Now there is a -23M from Italeri on the shelf, built about 15 years ago, but it no longer meets the standards - neither as a kit (raised detail) nor as an effect (wrong colours, a.s.o.). I'm hoping to sell them along with the -25P and Su-25 to some young boy at some modeling meet.

Middle East, MiG-27 - beautiful topics, but for someone who has more space. My entire apartment is 45 square meters, and the model display case holds a maximum of 150-160 planes, and that's only because they are in 1/72, and the largest ones are B-29 and C-130. After cutting 30 for WW1 and 80-90 for WW2, 40 places remain for the entire period after 1945. And what about two of them for the Mig-23 variants? No way. And if there is one place - it must be M/MF, not ML.

Cheers

Imo the RV/KP is much better than the Zvezda variant, however have some shortcomings.
For my standard this is a decent build of the KP boxing:

If you go trough the photo album, you can see the challanges.

So I think there is still place on the market for an other MiG-23 MF even if its ICM, Clear Prop or whatever else.

I agree with @Borisz, a new MF would be most welcome. I've started building the Art Model MiG-27D as a small sacrifice to the modelling gods, in the hope of a 23/27 family from ICM/Clear Prop/whoever. You're welcome 😉

I'd wait for the official ICM catalogue 2024, I'm thinking the MiG23 family in 72 scale, as the Hs 123  in 1/32, is in the Hannants list just as a remains of past years announcements ... really welcome if MiG comes back and Hs123 is confirmed, nowaday all is in a limbo with not so hope to be confirmed for the Mig, a pity ... think positive ad cross finger!

Very long list but only one airplane in 1/72 (FW 189C),listed as new only due to the new decals.... War time is not good for new designs...

Great model from the KP kit. Definitely light years ahead of Zvezda kit. So it does not really look like we desperately need new tool MF or bomber or UB versions... the only problem I think more exotic versions previously released by RV are currently out of production. MF by KP is available though.

Mig-23 by ICM next year is likely misinformation. Probably a shelved project after Clear Prop beat them to it. These days they seem to be focusing on WWII things, figures and AFV, occasionally a larger scale helicopter.

Got to think there's more to come - nothing in 1/32 (apart from Gladiator with figures), which has been a big focus area.

No ships, they've apparently done well (Kriegsfischkutter) over the last couple of years.

Perhaps more in 1:72, even different boxings/decals.

Just looked back through Clearprop FB page. They first announced MiG-23 in July 2020. So ICM was probably starting their project knowing there is Clearprop in the pipeline too.

BTW and offtopic - there are also Su-25UB and Grumman Tracer in that Clearprop FB thread :)

Posted

BTW and offtopic - if I counted correctly, there are probably 5 or 6 different 1/72 Sikorsky S-70 tools on the market. And I wonder when certain manufacturer will finally come up with the idea that it is enough to slightly mix these sprues to release the first 1/72 MH-60S Knighthawk kit on the market - a variant that has a chance to become this helo main variant in the 21st century.

Cheers
