Boeing 707-336C, BOAC - 1/144 Authentic Airliners

with 26 Decals 

 

 

I've long wanted a BOAC Boeing 707 in my collection, but the old Airfix kit just doesn't come up to scratch, so I took the plunge and bought the beautiful Authentic Airliners resin kit. It's far and away the best 707 on the market. I've had it a while on the workbench, as I then wanted to also do it in Pan Am colours, the indecision leading to it sitting almost complete in primer for 10 years! It is the early AA release with a 3 part fuselage, but went together beautifully.

 

The decals are from 26Decals and were absolutely superb, a real pleasure to apply to the model.  The windows are also from Authentic Airliners decals.

It is G-AXGX, a 707-336 Combi with large freight door and Pratt & Whitney JT3D engines as opposed to the RR Conways that powered BOAC's initial 707 deliveries. 

 

I remember seeing these at Heathrow back in the day, aahhh nostalgia, nothing today can touch the classy look of these old airline liveries!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Now I'll have to crack on with that Roden Super VC-10 in the same livery to park alongside it!

It's a classic combo, BOAC livery and the Boeing 707 and you've nailed it!

I'm glad you waited and built the AA kit I have to agree the ancient Airfix kit certainly isn't up to scratch and the Minicraft isn't much better. 

I can almost hear those JT3Ds screaming!

Wonderful model John - iconic, nostalgic and inspiring all at once!

 

It's a good few years since I built the Roden SVC-10 but I remember enjoying it. It will be great to see yours when it's ready.

I don't know much about the AA resin kits, but I believe that their fuselages are a single piece. This being the case, how do you prevent them from being 'tail sitters' ?

This was one of the early kits with a 3 piece fuselage. However, it did not need any nose weight as there is enough fuselage forward of the main undercarriage for it not be a tail sitter.

Chris is right in the above post though , it is a very heavy model!

I like airliners but would be difficult for me to get a ultra clean finish painting by brush so sadly pass these models by .......

I don't mean to hijack John's thread but the modern one-piece fuselage AA kits come pre-weighted and do not tail-sit. The only exceptions are kits which have alternative noses (e.g. the Convair twins) where you have to bore out the fuselage and add your own weight before attaching the nose to suit your choice of model.

Beautiful John and with you on the classy look of these liveries. I did a BOAC Cargo scheme on the Minicraft kit, just looks chunky in comparison to the AA kit.

Very nicely done! I have to agree with everyone! Beautiful livery on a beautiful airplane. Love the B707 series aircraft; and you have done this one great justice! The Authentic Airliner models are truly in a class by themselves, however, I am learning from this one...I did not know that the early ones were in 3-piece fuselages. How interesting. How challenging! And I am really fond of the old BOAC livery...nice choice and very well done. I currently have an AA B707-123 on my bench that has sat there for nearly two years now, primed and ready for the undercoat for the early American Airlines livery. Seeing your latest addition is most inspirational! Thank you for sharing!
