Hasegawa Datsun 240Z 1971 Safari Rally Winner

Recommended Posts

Just completed this relatively simple build of the oldest car I now have in my display cabinet . It’s been a while since I built a Hasegawa kit which always seemed to slightly “ division 1 “ compared to Tamiya’s products . This one went together really well , with no build issues . The only Hasegawa ism being the wobbly wheels ! There’s a full WIP over on that section of the Forum . I love Safari rally cars as much as the Japanese manufacturers do ; it’s something to do with the Safari specific parts of which this Datsun has plenty .
   Here’s the finished car

Nice work on what is a very distinctive car. That fame is a bit of a double edged sword for a modeller - plenty of reference photos, but also being so well known it will also get lots of comparisons to the real thing. I think judging by the photos here and the WIP thread it's fair to say this will stand those comparisons very well.

Looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for the kind comments. @keefr22 we discussed at Telford my thoughts on over shiny competition cars and the paintwork on this was very simply done !

@Spiny the real car is still alive and still has African inflicted damage which is great to see , so much better than being restored to as new . My model is very much scrutineering fresh !!

That's a really nice finish to a very striking colour scheme. I've not seen this car before, it's got a nice style to it, almost like a ford Capri, which I also love.

Thanks everyone for the comments.  @galaxyg I believe the vertical things are the  windscreen washer jets , maybe made longer to be more effective in washing the screen . All the reference photos of the actual car had them , so I made mine out of black wire .

Gary.
