Fnick Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Hi everyone Well after three attempts... I finally have some RFI pics that are not a total lost cause. I tried to be too clever and go fully manual for the first two and the results were disappointing. So these ones were taken in semi automatic mode where I set the f number and let the camera sort out the rest! The sun came out during the shoot. Trying to get pics without shadows was fun! 🙂 Enough waffling from me. Hope you enjoy the pics. Again a big thank you to everyone that visited the WIP posts. Yes the boot doesn't fit properly... 🙃 And here are the sunny ones 😎 Hope you enjoyed those. I certainly had fun building this one especially the engine bay. Thanks for looking, Nick 26
JeroenS Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Nice one Nick. The engine bay does look good. Manual camera settings can be fun. I wasn't familiar with digital camera's at all, except point and shoot. Took me a while to figure out a simple procedure that works for me almost always. Maybe it will help you as well. I set ISO 100 and max aperture (which is f/8 for my camera). Then I did some experimenting with shutter speed, and now I usually take 2 shots, one with 1/6 and one with 1/8. One of those is almost always either good, or I can do some tweaking with it using Faststone image viewer. Mainly, set brightness and / or contrast. Works for me and I'm happy with it, but having said that, there are BM members who take far better pics then I'll ever make 🙂 2
Toftdale Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Your perseverance has definitely paid off, top work and as for the engine cover not fitting properly it doesn't matter as it will never be on the car as you'll be showing off the cracking engine bay. Plus the photos look good to me, personally I think that's one of the best things about digital is that you can experiment as much as you like with out wasting film - Andy 1
keefr22 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Lovely model and lovely photos of it Nick - top job! 1 hour ago, Fnick said: Yes the boot doesn't fit properly... I watched a 'Harry's Garage' video on his Testarossa the other day where he spent a fair bit of cash having it mildy 'restored' - part of which was getting one part (front 'boot' cover IIRC) fitted properly - so it seems the real things are similarly affected! Cracking little Ferrari you have there! Keith 1 1
klubman01 Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 That came out well, and the photos are great. Ace work on both counts! Trevor 1
Neddy Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Beautiful bit of work! Superb looking model, extremely well detailed, finished and photographed. The interior shots in particular are impressive and the engine bay is exquisite. 1
CrazyCrank Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Gorgeous build, breathtaking paint result, lovely model ....CONGRATS 👍 1
Anteater Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Car's turned out well, I enjoyed following the build. Photo-wise, I found a high fstop was a game changer in terms of keeping the whole car in focus when shooting at a 3/4s angle. Worth noting the near-medium background tends to stay sharp too, which you might not always want, but that's prototypical of shooting a full size car also. Can't beat natural light either, so I tend to shoot outdoors whenever possible. 1
Marco F. Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Another stunning model from your garage. I like it from every spot you showed us. It's a shame Bud Spencer tried to close the boot, but can't be helped if the next door neigbour thinks he can touch your car... I like your outcome Marco F 1 1
Fnick Posted December 6, 2023 Author Posted December 6, 2023 Thank you all so much for your kind comments.🙏 Really appreciate them. I need to find time to properly experiment with the camera but generally when there is daylight between the kids the wife the job and the cat! 😄 There's not too much time. Nick 1
Spiny Posted December 6, 2023 Posted December 6, 2023 Simple solution - get rid of the cat (yes, I am a dog person!) It's a good looking model, especially the interior and engine - why are the best bits of any model always the bits which are hard to see? I know from the build you put a lot of work into those, and it shows and was well worth it, even if they aren't easily visible at first glance. In terms of the photography, I start from the same place as Jeroen with ISO100 and f8 aperture. These are the lowest ISO (least noise on the photo) and smallest aperture/highest f-stop my camera has - those settings also mean a longer exposure time is needed as less light gets to the sensor and the sensor is at its least sensitive, but if you have a tripod it's worth it. With my camera you can set it to show the exposure in relation to the camera's 'ideal' metering which will give you a decent idea of how it's meant to look, then adjust the exposure accordingly. You'll probably want to overexpose a little compared to the recommendation for white cars and underexpose for black cars, but it gives you a start. But the results you're getting with the aperture-priority setting are nothing to be sniffed at and, to be honest, unless I'm taking photos of completed models it's very rare I use the manual setting on my camera anyway. 1
kiseca Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 I followed this build too. The end product looks fantastic. 1
galaxyg Posted December 7, 2023 Posted December 7, 2023 Great result and nice photos, a high F-stop was one of my discoveries for better car photos - real cars are all in focus front-to-back. I followed the WIP too. Engine looks great. Red & Tan classic colour combination. 1
Fnick Posted December 7, 2023 Author Posted December 7, 2023 Thank you for your comments guys. I have been reliably informed by my kids and my wife that when she (the cat not the wife...) Is no longer with us we are getting a puppy and a kitten... 1 hour ago, galaxyg said: real cars are all in focus front-to-back Yep that is what I was trying to achieve. Since we have moved I have not located my camera tripod... In a box somewhere... Nick 1 1
Spiny Posted December 8, 2023 Posted December 8, 2023 Something tells me the puppy will eat even more into your modelling time! Just so long as it doesn't eat into your modelling (same goes for the kitten I imagine). 1
rx79guntank Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Lovely build! Just got myself a replacement kitten too, It's been a real chore chasing her off the work table every day... 1
stevehnz Posted December 10, 2023 Posted December 10, 2023 Very smart indeed. You've taken a model of a very handsome car & made a very handsome model of it. I'd call that a good result. A very good result in fact. 👍 Steve. 1
kapam Posted December 20, 2023 Posted December 20, 2023 Marvelous! Glad you sorted out the photography (don't ask me, I'm a total amateur). You have done a very precise and smooth job of it all! 👏👏👏 1
FunkyChiken Posted December 22, 2023 Posted December 22, 2023 The pictures look fantastic, and the build is excellent, just a shame that the engine cover doesn't quite sit right, it's happened to me loads of times too... 1
