de Havilland Mosquito STGB - The Wooden Wonder - in the Bun Fight!

Recommended Posts

Hi Britmodellers,

It would seem that we've never had a STGB dedicated to The Wooden Wonder, de Havilland's WW2 masterpiece the Mosquito. For a plane (almost) as iconic as the Spitfire, that ought to be rectified. If you agree, sign up for a wooden (or plastic) wonder in 2025!

The last time we had a sort of Mosquito STGB was in 2017 when it was incorporated into a De Havilland Mega GB.  That would make it 7 years ago. About time we had a proper Mossie STGB!

There are lots of lovely Mosquito kits out there from 1:144 to 1:24 (and in our stashes!)

So why not add your name to the list?

Cheers,

Charlie

PS - if anyone would like to co-host this one, should it get through the bun fight, do say.

Looks like it Charlie, although it was 10+ years ago - link

I always do my BM searches in Google, seems to find things a lot easier than Britmodeller’s search bar.

Nice idea though, perhaps it’s due for a re-run and might entice Special Hobby to pull their digit out!

Cheers.. Dave

Absolutely Dave. Might be out by then!

The DeHavilland MEGA GB in 2017 included a separate gallery for the Mosquito.

Some good stuff there!

I need a Bomber and a PR variant. Give me an excuse to buy the Tamiya and Airfix kits.

Have to see what we can do CF4U!

The last mount of Wing commander Guy Gibson, VC, perhaps for me?

Would be a great choice VP!

May have to start making noises for a Mosquito STGB in ... 2025?

It seems that all the GB suggestions so far for 2025 dovetail sweetly with my stash (I have Revell, Tamiya and Airfix 1/48 Mossies in Squadron strength).

Perhaps the stars have aligned, perhaps the Truman Show has been reprised as the Fatcawthorne Show (if so, no cameras in the Bathroom please!!!) or far more likely, having a stash that fills my garage to overflowing is actually a sign of a very serious mental illness!!

In order to help progress my check up from the neck up, you'd better count me in!!

Take care all

Chris

As discussed with Charlie, this is now a formal GB proposal.

To answer his original question, the last time we had a Mosquito STGB was in 2017. It was incorporated into the De Havilland Mega GB.

Thanks Karearea! I've added you to the list.

That's a great family connection. Do you have any information about your Grandfather's time on Mosquitos?

Sounds good. I have a couple 1/72 Tamiya ones(FB. VI, B.IV  Airfix in series 4 box and the new one ,the PR26 plus a Freightdog conversion to PR34)

So depending g how I cope with other builds I might get back to, pencil  me in please.

I think I will build the Mossie thats the subject in “The Shepherd”. Ive heard an original broadcast and have seen the new movie released by Disney with Travolta playing the pilot. Does anyone know if it was a single or two staged version. It was supposedly a Path-finder in December of 1943. Would that be a Bomber, Fighter, or Recon variant ?
