This will be good to watch, I have the kit in the stash to build with folded wings.  I have an Aires wing fold set to improve the detail, but since it's Aires, who knows if it will fit.

As I said it`s a first for me with folded wings and I did not want to spend to much on her.

I have two of these stalled, so I'll be stopping in the see what's up! Between the original boxing and this one, I think the original is better for mold quality.

TBH she is like the Beau I have on the go  at the moment, a bit Jekyll and Hyde with some going together quite easily others a pita.

Right, apart from cleaning the wing bits up for now I opened up 2 of the 3 camera ports.

DSCN3957

They fit but I need to get them flush now so will refine the frames down .

I also cleaned up the cockpit parts except the control column.

DSCN3958

Nothing else can be done tonight as I working in my own light.

Ye gods Simon you're off already.

Nice start.

Cheers,

Alistair

Yes Alistair, I might as well get on with what I can for now, warmer weather predicted for Sunday onwards down here so will be able to do stuff out in the cave, like spraying etc.

Got a good start.

Thanks lads but there is trouble ahead, (See below.)

Thanks @Hamden, @marvinneko, and @Alex Gordon.

Outer wings nearly done, one of the wing folds is being a pain.

DSCN3959

Inner wings done.

DSCN3960

With wing folds.

DSCN3961

But as I said some fun ahead, I am off to B&Q for some quick drying cement by the looks of that gap.

DSCN3962

TBH once pressure is applied the gap does close quite a bit.

Anyhow, off to trim a few more bits .

Stay warm.

Simon.

That is quite the gap, Simon - but with pressure applied, as you said, it should close up nicely. At least is quite regular both sides, so it should be an easy fix anyway :thumbsup2:

  • Spookytooth changed the title to Seafire FR .46, Station Flight, Royal Naval Air Station , Lossiemouth , Scotland, 1948.

Sorry folks, I have changed the build to a FR 46 as the wing folds on the 47 were naff to say the least, Airfix must of be having a laugh...

I was warned by @Alex Gordon but it could be a box of frogs and he was right.

Apart from a different windscreen, flaps and air intake the rest is the same.

Luckily I was able to prise off the section between the flaps and refix it on the 46`s.

Also added the upper wings too.

DSCN3963

I dry fitted the wings to the fuselage and there is still a gap but not as big.

Great work here.  Don't we just love it when the designers at Airfix deliberately put these challenges in their kits to ensure we don't get bored! 😄

You are not wrong there sir.

Thanks @giemme, @Alex Gordon, @Thom216, @Hamden, @elger, @GREG DESTEC, @cobraleader, @Dr. Quack, @Retired Bob, @Zephyr91.

Ok, blending the camera ports..

DSCN3975

A bit of filler there should do it.

DSCN3976

Prouder than Proud Mary (For those of a certain age)

A lot of sanding to do there.

Props done, and I kept them separate to

DSCN3977

Air scoop ready for primer.

DSCN3978

Happy with that but the fit to the bottom cowling will need Polyfilla by the looks of it.

Stay dry and warm.

Simon.
