I noticed the 'Whats your latest acquisition' thread is now locked, so here's a new one!

Today, this arrived for me ...

20231130_184951

Another Wonderland Models bargain at £19.99 - the same as the Airfix shop - and gives another option for the Tiger STGB next year.

Had a quick look at the contents .... doesn't look too bad generally apart from ejector pin marks and what looks like thick plastic so hopefully OK!

I have seen a review that's not glowing about parts fit, but not put off by it.

Well, apart from perfume you mean… . ‘Tis the season 😉

A Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IXc from one 48 on here, I sold mine a while back and regretted it ever since. A Border Lancaster Nose Art from Jadlam, both in the post… can’t wait.

Popped to my local for my final entry to the p-47 stgb, a hb 1/72, as it was so cheap even with a paint couldn’t help but get another cheapie, in this case the italeri f4u7, recently ruined up an attempt to lengthen the earlier version of that kit to -7 so hopefully can do it right.

After a bit of man shaming grovelling and pleading I was able to purchase for Santa Claus to give me later two sets (conversion and cockpit) for the Tamiya 1/32 Spitfire Mk XVIe Low back by Laminar Flow Design to make a Mk XIVe.  I was allowed a peek in the box but told after that it wait till 25 December.

The peek shows they are incredibly well packed in cardboard insert inside a sturdy box.  I did not remove but the cockpit parts look intimidatingly fiddly while inside their printer cage.  Slowly and carefully comes to mind.

Oh and certain perfume hints were delicately dropped - kinda like :fight:

From Airfix

A brace of pre-ordered Airfix A11007 1/48 Fairey Gannet AS.1/AS.4 kits which with club discount kept the total cost very , very , marginally on the less painful side of three figures.      Now only the 1/48 Buccaneer S.2B to go from my 2023 pre-orders and then January should have the Club Renewal with Spitfire/Typhoon Kit and perhaps some 2024 pre-orders placed.

Time for the annual what would I like as a Wedding Anniversary present this year?

From Amazon

eyesen Digital Film Scanner w/ 22MP,Converts 35mm,126,110,Super 8 Films,Slides,Negatives To JPEG and a SanDisk 128GB Extreme PRO SDXC Card for it.      Have tried a couple of different negative scanners in the past which failed miserably but noticed a thread where Dave Swindell had success with this one as has stevehnz since so decided I would give it a go and on first efforts from a couple of randomly selected negative strips looks more promising than any I have tried before although need to spend a bit more time on the enhancement options but an enforced post-operative rest looms next week (depending on there being beds available at 0600 Monday) so might get to grips with it then.      But for starters  -

AND

From Postscript Books

First came across Yann Arthrus-Bertrand’s distinctive style of landscape photography in an exhibition of his work at the Botanical Gardens in Edinburgh in 2004 and bought one of his books (The Earth From The Air In 366 Days), fantastic photography and predated the widespread use of drones so all were physically taken by the author from light aircraft , helicopters , microlights or hot-air balloons , recently saw some of his other titles much reduced on PostscriptBooks and added them to my Anniversary pressie wants.

The Earth From The Air book , published 2017 by Thames & Hudson , 440 page expanded version of the 1999 original.

Our Living Earth book , published 2008 by Thames & Hudson , using the authors images to focus on environmental and social challenges.

The Earth From Space book , published 2013 by Abrams , don’t think he has managed into space yet so a collection of satellite imagery compiled rather than taken by the author.

An Airfix Beagle Basset 206, which will make a nice little stocking stuffer.

I’ve been hankering after one since @bigbadbadge showed such a neat and charming build in RFI. I’m a big fan of Airfix’s modern kits, but something about the classic line has me champing at the bit to build new acquisitions. Perhaps the paired-back simplicity?

Edit: Also found a USAAF Personnel boxing to go with my Axis/Allied Twin GB. Yes the scale is 1/76, but they’ll do.

This past week or so I have recklessly purchased…

Latest acquisitions

I already have one of these nearly finished. Only I wrecked the canopy moulding. This was an expensive way to buy a new canopy moulding. :clown:

Latest acquisitions

This was added to the above to make the postage worth the cost. I did pay quite a bit more than the £1.95 on the price label. :penguin: It does fit my 1940 obsession, only I’m not ready for the Med and N Africa bit yet. The transfers are shot, but I’ll work something out. One day.

Latest acquisitions

Finally, a rather frozen postie delivered this little lot from Ceredigion. I seem to be getting very serious about the accuracy of my set dressing models.

Mentioned in the last thread that I was a tad skeptical about an ebay purchase, low price and no photos of inside the box, thought I was right to be as I had no delivery updates a week in, but later that day tracking was adding and it arrived this morning, nothing wrong in the slightest, a great purchase, only a small problem, didn't realise just how big the Neptune, hoped to display it underneath my Shackleton, not so sure it will fit now without some creative standwork  F8-FC3-E47-DC95-428-F-87-AD-4121-D5-BE49

Me too. I love the figures in that kit. Really well posed as a group.

I don’t know how this masterpiece slipped by me, it was like a dream come true when I saw it. The big problem for me is that the Commander in Chief forbade me from any further kits. Solution, It’s a big detail set for my 1/32 P-40 😉

APC Decals (Czech) did replacement ones for the standard options for the kit.

As it happens, I got my grubby mitts on another Wellesley last weekend, and I'm looking at doing K7556 instead - the pre-production/Prototype.
I could check the sheet on mine - if they're ok, they're yours.

Besides some mask sets, I bought this aesthetically challenged .... thing.

Bit hard to wrap your head around the idea that this is a 1953 design that was still being proposed as the Il-102 in the mid-1980s as competitor to the Su-25 .

@Karearea My copy of "Forgotten Heros" turned up the other day, at nearly a $100.00 posted by the writer, it was a bit of a jump for this pensioner but it'll sit nicely with my other squadron history. I've only had a quick look at it as it is destined to reside under the tree for a bit. :) I've had a couple of parcels from Minikiwiland recently too, one with a few Vallejo colours I was after, so I added an Italeri AV-8A kit to bulk it up a bit. The a few days later, seeing he had a good price on the latest Airfix Mosquito PR.XVI due to a damaged box, I felt it would have been rude not to. The contents were absolutely fine & I'll likely shift my B.XVI on, & use one of my Tamiya kits with some Paragon parts for this.

I hope you enjoy it- I agree it’s a bit of a jump (I’ve just refixed an Auckland mortgage so mine is also under the tree!) but there’s some excellent research in the text.

I saw that Mossie and was tempted, glad it went to a good home!

I'd originally looked at it & decided I didn't need another one, then a couple of days later, I went back fully expecting it to be gone, but no. Well what could I do? It was meant to be. :)

That’s kind of you. I’ll bear that in mind. It’s chiefly the stencils I’m after. The main markings I can make masks and paint.

My early Xmas pressies to myself from Jadlam arrived a few days ago, hoping to squeeze in Tamiya's new 1/48 F-35 B if I can as well before the 25th, happy festive modelling everyone.

So gloriously ugly I rather love it. Like something from outside a Tatooine Cantina or a Studio Ghibli film.

Nothing too exciting but I picked up an Airfix Tomahawk from Aldi when out shopping with the Mrs.

£6.99 including glue, paints and brush - bargain!

I’ve had all my modelling tools distributed between a few different plastic boxes for about a year, so I’ve been on the lookout for a toolbox.

I was at the local hardware store as I’m doing a minor refresh around the house, and saw this beauty standing in a sea of grey and yellow plastic. Should store everything in one place, apart from my compressor. It’s going under the tree for now though..
