Dragon 1/32 Bf110D-3 Epr.Gr.210

Recommended Posts

Here's my latest completion, the Dragon 1/32 Bf110D-3 (or D-0 as listed in the gruppe paperwork), it is marked as one of the aircraft used by Erprobungsgruppe 210 in the summer of 1940.

... and a whitewall tyred tailwheel. I'm not sure if it was prototypical, there aren't many pictures of the original aircraft but it does look like there might be one and it was reasonably common:

I used the same aftermarket as for my recent Bf110c-6 (apart from the AIMS conversion set obviously).

Paints were Colourcoats ACLW12 - RLM Grau (RLM 02) for the interiors, ACLW03 - Hellblau (RLM 65) for the undersides and the top surface camo was ACLW11 - Dunkelgrun (RLM71) and ACLW12 - RLM Grau (RLM 02) - again it's hard to be sure from photographs but the D-0's of Epr.Gr.210 look to have quite a soft demarcation so may have been repainted at unit level. The blue on the prop spinners was a mix of Citadel acrylic blues mixed as close as I could to the blue on the aircraft code letter.

Markings were a mixture of decals from the Revell re-pop of the kit and the squadron markings were from the Kagero Battle of Britain decal set kindly donated by our late forum-buddy Silver Fox.

Thanks for dropping by :)

Cheers,

Stew

Hallo @Stew Dapple,

may I give you a little hint, to such a nice model?

A little weathering would significantly improve the aperance of the model and make it appear much more pleasing.

If you have no idea how to do, so please feel free and ask me, or the comunity!

Like a beautifully made-up woman you meet for dinner!

Happy modelling

The Dragon kit is not the easiest monster to build and you have done a great job on it.  (The Revell kit has its own demons, i.e. engine nacelle fit.)  I like your camo scheme and always appreciate a pristine finish.  I always have to weather my builds to hide the numerous and very obvious building mistakes.  (Oh my, a fingerprint, looks like the place for some mottling and grime to appear.)  Just a very nice 110 you have there.  Thanks for sharing.

I have to say that's an impressive build 👌

While some exhaust stains are evident, I don't think the lack of weathering makes much difference, after all, it wasn't battered when it rolled off the production line!

I would say that some pinwash in the panel lines would help, but I can't see any in the pictures, so not sure if the real plane had them.

That's superbly done @Stew Dapple, nice to see a 'pure' model for a change. I think a clean build really lifts out the lines and form of the subject, as well as the skills of the modeller.

Agree to disagree. 'Weathering' seems to be more about fashion these days, and aesthetics can be very subjective. It's nice to see some variety.

A very pleasing to the eye 110, the camo is really well done.

I can imagine you sat back and looked at the completed build with a great deal of satisfaction?

Thanks for sharing, what's next?

Watto 👍
