Count me in, I have various Hurricanes in the stash, including some Sea Hurricanes, a type I have never built before.

Hopefully this GB will be time to rectify that. Glad to have you along Mr T. 👍

Oh the dilemma - I've vouched my Hurricane to To the Few GB - with no alternates lurking in my stash.

But today, at IPMS Avon show, I bought this kit - count me in.

With an idea for the prototype.

If this starts after June I’d like to join with an Airfix 1/24 Douglas Bader 242 sqn, possibly with a 3d printed Merlin….

Oh wow! That would be something.

Re the dates, I’m hoping that the GB spans the first flight anniversary in November, but that will have to wait until the usual post bunfight horse trading, assuming we get through…

It would! I may need to create the Merlin in advance, but that wouldn't be more than 25%, would it?

The Merlin in the Hurricane kit is very good overall, so I'm not sure how much more you would get from a 3D print of one.

Do you have the kit?   If so I'd take a close look at what is supplied.

If you can 3D print , the kit has various issues,  in particular a new spinner would really help,  other things are likely fixable with 'some modelling skill'

less obvious if built opened up, but the nose is too deep, as the Merlin is to scale. This makes the nose ring and spinner too big, and the wing is too thick, with wrong wing tips, too short and curved head on, the real thing is flat from the front. A bit like a effect of a wide angle lens, the distortion is smooth, which is why it's much described. And possibly fixable, my plan is to try taking out 2 mm at the wing root, and taper that out to the tip,  and through the cowl side, taking in the nose ring.  The idea is to keep as much as possible of the positive riveting.

The rear fuselage is a bit shallow, though the outline shape is right, so the keel is too deep.

I've not got around to trying out my theoretical fixes on an old scrap kit as yet.....

No I think that would be well within 25%. Besides, it’s probably more akin to you building your own aftermarket,

You might be right, I was working on one for the Spit, I’ll take a look

There is a very good set of posts on Hurricane spinners on this site 😀 From memory I think we deduced from pictures that Bader’s plane had the oversize Spitfire spinner, should be moderately easy to create the 3d model…

Er, what? Are you saying where the trailing edge of the wings meets the fuselage is unchanged, then steadily we lose 2mm from the depth of the wings, and the fuselage, as we move toward where the leading edge meets the fuselage, the leading edge reduction evenly reducing to no reduction along the leading edge until the tips are normal, and the 2mm reduction extending from the front of the wing root level to the front of the plane? Would you reduce the upper or lower wing? Or both evenly? And I’m guessing the side engine panels would need reducing, if they were to be fitted over the Merlin?

Wow, that seems a lot of work and risky, sigh…

I was very fortunate to go to Duxford 2 years ago on an invitational from Airfix - for a whole weekend of the "Unsung Hero" - as they were promoting it .

It was an awesome weekend and well worth the 600 + mile round trip. Getting up close (really close) and personal with the Hurricane's .

I have a load of photos of the aircraft, for reference .

the Airfix Spitfire Mk.I Merlin is a lot less refined.   The Hurricane one is rather neatly done.

There is a thread on Bader's Hurricane, the LE-D one, and possible serial, probably P3061

The Spinner the Rotol ES/6 unit, which looks to be the same as the unit fitted to mostly the Mk.II Spitfire.

The prop hub is detailed, so you can leave the spinner off.

I can't recall precisely, I did spend time with plans, and an Airfix  and Trumpeter kit,  it's one of those things that makes a lot more sense visually.

It may not work.   If not had the enthusiasm or space to do the hacks.   The wing tip needs work as well.

I should really try the main ones and document them.

The upper panel is wrong

Yes, I suspect it is, if built opened up then not noticeable, and even closed up it looks like an image taken with a wide angle lens,  which is why countless models have been built without people going it looks off.

Built opened up with added bits it still makes a very impressive model, and the detail draws the eye away from the issues I mention.

For sure! But yes, GBs should come with a warning, because as Col said they become addictive! Welcome to the fun.
