200 years of railways 1825-2025 27 Sept '25- 18 Jan '26

As @Paul821 has pointed out, 2025 is the bicentenary of railways in a recognizable form. So what I'm proposing is build anything that has connected to railways in the last 200 years.

 

200 years rules out all the discussion about whether rutted roads constituted railways etc. After that the scope is pretty much unlimited.

 

Obvious trains and infrsactructure in any gauge- standard gauge, Iberian, narrow, anything.

For the adventurers WW1 60cm gauge which would be a lot of sctrabuilding but comparatively easy in 1/32 as it's not far off OO track. Equally estate railways.

 

Or railguns etc. Maglev systems even though they arguably don't run on rails. Monorail (Wuppertal anyone?)

 

I'll draw the line at V1 rocket launchers. Otherwise as broad as you like for scale, material etc. etc.

I'm in.  I was actually playing around with some of my Woodland Scenic materials today making a base for my P-43.  One of these days I'll have a train again.

Obviously I'm in on this one. You cannot have too many wagons, plus there's a place in this GB for buildings associated with railways.

Our local Railway Shop has had umpteen warnings from Facebook for offering HO for sale, and a bit of LGB. Oh the the innocent days of train travel!

got to say, I'm drawn by the idea of an estate railway, or one of the ex WW1 narrow gauge items that then went to the short-llived Lincolnshire potato railways, seems trench railways and potato fields had mud in common.

Or maybe this is the time to finally get me a BigBoy, or something from Trumpeter's German WW2 range.

That is the truth, as in Gauge 1, Gauge 0, half 0, of course the British messed it up (it's what we do best) with oo, and then it was downhill all the way, N should really by 1/3 zero! But a third of a zero, along with half a zero is one for the mathematicians!

Oh, there's no requirement for it to be in plastic- I'm kinda hoping for lots of white metal, P/E soldering, burnt fingers etc. etc.

1829? I knew the Kitmaster original was old, but didn't realise quite how old.  I've think you['ve put down a clear marker if anyone wants to go earlier than that and get to 1825!

Well - I thought it was earlier, so I looked it up.  Rainhill Trials was 1829.

With a lot of Victorian Welsh narrow gauge waiting to be built, I'm in!

 

Even if I've built everything in the stash by then, there's always room for more...

 

This bogie Guards & luggage van is the current project, now primed and awaiting completion of the batch for the paint shop:

 

 

And whatever gets built for the GB will either be more etched stuff like this or a scratch build.

Actually, this would be a novel GB for me. It would make a change from the dozens of tanks that I've built over the years. In another life (about 40 years ago), I used to build model railways, and I'm sure that buried somewhere in a box, in some dark and dusty corner, there is one of the old 7mm 3H kits of a (I think) BR van, so add me to the list please.

Have we reached 25 yet?
