Hallo

This thread will become a chronology about the FW 190 A-6 and A-8. Most kits from Eduard.

The decals will be from Eagle Calls. Code letters from Fantasy Printshop.

In summery there will be 4 aircraft A-8 and two A-6.

https://www.1001hobbies.de/decals-fuer-flugzeuge/9093-eagle-cal-eag48022-decal-focke-wulf-fw-190a-8-rs-ii-jg4-sturm-4-.html

Aftermarket products I do have a lot. 2 boxes!

One version will be a A-5 converted to a G-3.

In US service!

How accurate the conversion will become, I do not know yet.

https://www.pinterest.at/pin/57561701470917414/

One will be a D-9 from Eduard and one Ta-152 from Zoukei Mura.

All in scale 1/48.

However, some basic questions for this build are solved.

One was concerning the gear.

The others of the Sturmstaffel are solved due to the book:

So far for today. The building will start at Christmas or in 2024 after New Year!

Yes  I know.

But the amount of my kits is already quite high , so I refrain from buying more...

Hallo

Now my project altered a little.

In the meanwhile I built 5 Thunderbolts, 5 Lightnings and already 5 out of 7 Mustangs.

2 Mustangs left.

I will build only Fw-190 from Sturmgruppen.

With the Rüstsatz R-2 for the A-8.

With armor protection and some other add ons for the A-6.

The A-5 I will convert to an A-6. So with some conversion sets, I can finally build

3 aircraft Fw-190 A-6 as a Rammjäger from the Sturmstaffel.

https://www.1001hobbies.de/decals-fuer-flugzeuge/9093-eagle-cal-eag48022-decal-focke-wulf-fw-190a-8-rs-ii-jg4-sturm-4-.html

I have enough choices by my decal sheets. This is a strong contrast to my models from the US-airforce.

It will take me until September, before I can start.

Hallo

Here I am back again on this issue.

I started with my old Hasegawa kit. Cann't remember when my last on my bench.

Anyway, the A-6 from Sturmstaffel 1 from Hasegawa is my project.

https://www.scalemates.com/de/kits/hasegawa-09965-focke-wulf-fw190a-6-sturmstaffel-1--130718

The Hasegawa kit has one major issue: The armor plating is too thick. From plastic to reality 25mm against 5 mm.

So I will use my etched parts, which would fit better. One plating, which was I have to modify, here I must use the plastic version.

This is the white 7 from Sturmstaffel 1.

It is a challange.

https://www.1001hobbies.fr/decalcomanies-pour-avions/9085-eagle-cal-eag48007-decal-focke-wulf-fw-190a-sturmjager-pt-1-4-white-.html#&gid=1&pid=1

Yesterday I checked my box with aftermarket products, and found out, that pitot tubes I have for all of them!

Barrels too.

The bulge in the wing for the outboard MG 151 I have in resin too.

So I can convert my A-5 and A-6 into a Sturmjäger.

So far yet, more later on.

Hallo

Now some pictures:

Firstly: I intend to build from Sturmstaffel 1 the white 7 (Pilot Bacsila), white 2 ( Pilot Vivroux) and white 1 (Pilot unknown).

spacer.png

The white 7 will come from my Hasegawa kit.

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.pngspacer.png

Here in the cockpit preparations for the use of Quintas parts is already done.

spacer.png

From Sturmgruppe Udet, I intend to make the yellow 17 (Pilot Ungar) and yellow 3 (Pilot Baisch).

For this purpose, I have enough rockets WGR.21 from Eduard kits.

The Krebsgerät is a backward firing WGR.21, without much success.

spacer.png

And here from II,/ JG 4 Sturm I intend to build the white 16 (Pilot Schaar) and yellow 2 (Pilot Güldenpfenning).

Hallo

Missing parts: Throttle #11 and friction knob #67 !!!!

I am now preparing my cockpit with parts from Quintas.

Beside that I have etched parts from Eduard as spare.

From Eduard I have the throttle lever, the knob will be scratch.

The Hasegawa kit lacks the throttle.

The Quintas set too!

And most kits lack the friction knob #67 to fix the throttle.

All aftermarket products I have, lack the friction knob #67 too!

This parts are eye catcher and you find most cockpits lacking both of them.

So far.

This situation I will change and make my cockpit with all the missing parts.

We will see.

Hallo

At the evenening:

spacer.png

At night, I noticed by cross references, that the two regtengular bulgs, at the position of the oputboard MG 151 should not be on the A-6.

The Hasgawa instruction say yes, and it should be done.

Squadron about the A-6 version with MG 151 say no.

My book about Sturmstaffel 1 say also no.

I corrected the wing.

Today:

Spraying the fuselage band, the yellow cowl underside and black exhaust areas.

After correction:

Hallo

The paintjob is done.

The RLM 75 from Gunze does me not satisfy at all. So I take a jar and mix it with appropriate colors, to get a good result.

But I never change a color system, since this has too many uncertainties.

Also the RLM 74 I modified.

After the fuselage was done, I noticed the wrong tints.

At the wings the color is improofed. For the next model it will be fully all right!

Hallo

Here we go with the A-6 from Eduard old kit. With engine complete.

I worked now yesterday afternoon and today morning.

The kit works until now excellent.

A very different positive experience, much better as all the later Eduard kits!

Just one surprise popped up until now.

Hallo

Well, today it was time to install the rudiment of the engine.

Rudiment because the supercharged air piping are only shown as an approach and do not lead to the cylinder.

In contrast to a correct engine from Zoukei Mura's, see manual of the Fw-190 A-4.

Here: Without exhaust piping anyway.

spacer.png

This is of course the 32 scale and not 48. But the apparent perfection of the Eduard engine is deceptive, having a seemingly realistic engine in front of you.

But that is not the case at all. It is also not possible to display the engine openly without a lot of additional effort.

Also with the etched parts, it is far too less. The air intake channel is probably also too short.

A nice picture from a FLICKR user

The reality on Eduard kit:

spacer.png

Maybe The overall concept is good, but what bothers me a bit is the fact that the top cover for the fuselage armament can only be displayed in open position.

It can only be closed if you use the pliers to clear the ammunition feed, actually a clear-cut.

For me anyway a funny situation, since my Sturmbock never had the fuselage weapons, due to the changement of center of gravity.

I have the impression that the front engine cover is a little too short.

That's it for today, we'll continue in a week.

Hallo

The subjects to obey or to change:

Reduction of lenght of engine, that the fan blades get 0,5 mm further rear. Easy job.

Second the covers for the wing root mounted MG. Here I will strenghten the wing cut out inward to get a better hold.

This is external.to do.

Intrrnal the friction control of throttel and stearing rods for the stick.

The seat cousion too. It was there because of engine vibration.

All easy subjects.

The armour plating and windows of course.

Here I got aftermarket etched parts.

In painting: The wing leading edge has a wave loke demarkarkation of camo.

So far.

Hallo

Now my second 190 is already pretty far in progress.

I did all the spraying and basic matkings by stencils.

The build all over is quite different from other kits, like Dragon (I built most), Hasegawa (some) and Tamiya (some).

In both ways. positive and negative.

The summery will show up after assembling.

The hood interrior is not quite accurate, and misses the rear pipe for emergency realease.

Antennas are also not so perfect, as I wanted.

Hallo

Now my number 2 is done.

spacer.png

I am right now on my third one. Here I went a different way to get my wing done. Since the inboard weapon hatches are in the open position from the kit. I installed them on the wing and got a nightmere when I tried to install the fuselge. More about it later.

Hallo

Now, it is day 2 on my third Sturmbock.

After learning my lesson from my first Eduard early 190, I changed some major things.

The most annoying issue is the weapon hatch on the wing root. It is designed for open position only.

This is what I do not want to. The instruction says to cut out the rear outline of the hatch.

It never fits so good. So I thinned the hatch and closed the wing.

In opposition I had a fitting issue with the fuselage. I had to cut away some plastic from this area.

You may sse:

spacer.pngspacer.png

The wing looks better now.

The next issue was the fitting of the fire wall. Here you must thin the lower instrument panel on the back side!

Before spraying. All Eduard etched parts are on.

To prevent metrallic outlines, I attached them before spraying.

spacer.png

To make life easier, I assembled the engine.

And grinded some plastic parts to reduce length.

The engine was too long! The fan edge was too far outward.

You see anyway just the front.

Beside this, I have no fuselage weapons anyway.

spacer.pngspacer.png

spacer.png

The cockpit: As I said I installed everything I could.

Not so the stick and the seat cushion and belts.

After the spraying I took masks off and painted and assembled.

spacer.png

spacer.png

If you assemble the fuselage, you need lots of force at the firewall to get it right.

The wing was already assembled and wheelbay spraid.

Do not forget the tailwheel!

spacer.png

After that was done, I did some filling with CA.

spacer.png

spacer.png

Than I attatched the top of the canopy with instruments and Revi, (A Quickboost item).

Here I made a short scratch bearer on the firewall right in front.

This cover for the canopy sits just there and to fix it in position is delicate.

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

So far for today.

Next day the engine without fan and cowling will be installed.

The horizontal stabilizer too.

So the airfarme is than finished.

Hallo

I could not wait. So I proceeded....after grinding and filling my work from today morning...

And sprayed the engine alu.

We will see the front only and the exhaust.

spacer.png

Is a bit tricky to get the exhausts on.

Painting with brush the push rods for the front and exhausts.

The enging bearer are installed.

spacer.png

Engine in place.

Here I reduced lenght on the rear and in the front. To win about 1,5 mm!!!

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

I got it.

The learning from my first Eduard 190 was good.

The issues along the way, are heavy, It is so easy to stumple, and get really worried,...I asume I learned the lesson.

To get the wing first closed with the weapon hatch showed up much better, as following the instruction.

Hallo

After basic spraying.

All my three Fw-190 until now got a different sort of masking for the camo.

The first one on the wings and on top of fuselage, the second all bounbdaries of camo.

The third one got masking just on the wing fillet.

All free hand sprayed!

This one was the last of Sturmstaffel 1.

Now the other Gruppen and Staffel will follow.

Hallo

Now I proceed on my 4 a/c of A-8 version.

The wings are done in plastic, assembled, grinded, drilled....inner weapon hatch closed already!

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

spacer.png

Some small parts....inner gun cut and pre-assembled

spacer.png

Navigation lights unsuitable in plastic on the wing....

spacer.png

Also unsuitable is the drop tank .....

Clear parts saved...out from the box...tp prevent scratches.....

spacer.png

This resin cowling is unsuitable, since the faring on the gun is missing for the Sturmbock....
