bianfuxia Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 (edited) Short version: this is for armour builders bewildered by all the aeroplane GBs! Dateline: your childhood. Ground Forces advanced on their objective this afternoon. The Battle of Flower Bed Three began at [insert what time you got home from school]. We're serious modellers but who's to say we can't also reminisce about the days of our childhood when our tanks and little army men would clear the Nazis from Mum's flower bed, push that Zombie Horde back to the corner of the living room, or hold Godzilla at the far end of the patio until the last man? Hold your position, soldier, and don't shoot til you see the whites of his eyes! This is a GB for all your Ground Forces of any era or nation, but with a twist. Build your model to your current standards, but post a few pics in the gallery of your tank or jeep during operations in the garden, flower bed, driveway, the kitchen bench, the dinner table, or wherever you think a few tanks are needed to Hold. That. Position. Nothing in your stash? There are quite a few pretty cheap kits around - buy one and join in! Eligibility: Ground Forces includes, tanks, trucks, jeeps, armoured cars, artillery, support vehicles, troop carriers, foot soldiers, horse cavalry, IFVs, APCs, Humvees, mobile command posts, static command posts, motorbikes...these can be real or sci-fi, fantasy, what-if etc. Amphibious vehicles like Amtrac, DUKW, Buffalo, Schwimmwagen, etc are also ground forces because they can drive a long way on the ground. Ships and boats that can't drive on land are not ground forces, even if they are "giving you fellas a ride". Same for battleships on the gun line. Yes, the soldier needs that naval gunfire support, but no, the battleship is not Ground Forces. Close air support aircraft, helicopter gunships, troop-carrying planes, assault gliders...all these things can fly and so they are not Ground Forces. Some examples of the Photo Gallery aspect of this GB (I am sure you can get a lot more creative than this, too): Signer-uppers: 1. me 2. @Keeff 3. @John Masters 4. @Hockeyboy76 5. @theplasticsurgeon 6. @psdavidson 7. @Marklo 8. @R T Fishall 9. @desert falcon 10. @Courageous 11. @Tim R-T-C 12. @JeroenS 13. @JOCKNEY 14. @Ralph 15. @2996 Victor 16. @vppelt68 17. @Beardybloke 18. @AdrianMF 19. @danbuoy 20. @sardaukar 21. @Wings unlevel 22. @IanC 23. @Bobby No Mac 24. @Pig of the Week 25. 26. @Armor Novice 27. @RevDWC 28. @flyboy2610 29. @Pedro52 30. @Trevor L 31. @robw_uk 32. @TonyW 33. @diases 34. John Masters Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Haha! Yesss! How about aircraft flying about the ceiling? I’m in anyhow… 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 Never really did tanks as a kid, but I can still join in the fun. Ambush position in the long grass. 2

psdavidson Posted November 15, 2023 Posted November 15, 2023 The Battle of Pillow Hill was re-enacted regularly in my yoof I think it deserves to be fought one more time /P 1
Rob G Posted November 16, 2023 Posted November 16, 2023 Hmm... I was a yoof wif good taste and only builded models of airyplanes. Guess I'm excluded from this'un. (Nassty, nasssty tankses!) 3

Marklo Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Ok plenty of AFVs in the stash that could be photographed in the wild. I’m in. 1
R T Fishall Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 Definitely looks like fun, please count me in. Bonus points for blowing the model up with firecrackers at the end? 5
Enzo the Magnificent Posted November 17, 2023 Posted November 17, 2023 As a child I had a nice model railway (well... actually a train set ) on a baseboard. I was never allowed to have this set up long term so when not in use it had to be dismantled and stacked against a wall in my bedroom. My younger brother (aka Favourite Son) liked Subbuteo. He was allowed to have the Subbuteo pitch laid out permanently in our bedroom. If I wanted to run some trains, I had to ask his permission, which was rarely granted. So it would be nice to build an Honest John launcher delivering a bucket of sunshine to a football stadium. Okay... I realise it's a war crime, but it would be sooooooo satisfying. Incidentally.... I built a Matchbox Phantom with the crew sat in the jet with canopies open. The crew were not wearing helmets... 2 4

zebra Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 Great idea, ground forces aren’t my thing though so I’ll skip this one. Maybe we need a GB for naval aircraft operating from ironing boards as well. 1

I would think a model of an aircraft posed at a real airport with real planes in the background would be good ? Along the lines of forced perspective.
RC Boater Bill Posted November 18, 2023 Posted November 18, 2023 What if I nosed this one into the beach? 2

I'm pleased to see that you are not bitter about this after all these years. My mum once told me she I was younger that I was an accident, and they only ever intended having my brother and she would have liked a daughter (explains why I had dolls for Christmas and had to wear a drees around the house, OK only kidding). It really is a shame that parents aren't given a manual when children are born. 3 2
bianfuxia Posted December 18, 2023 Author Posted December 18, 2023 Resurfacing this so it doesn't get lost in the wake turbulence of all the aircraft GBs....
Courageous Posted December 21, 2023 Posted December 21, 2023 I have more than enough 1/72 AFV's to choose from. Count me in. Stuart 1
