Is anyone off to IPMS Telford this coming Saturday?

Might be an opportunity to put a face to a name. I'll be there Saturday - but I am lucky as Telford is only 45 minutes drive from where I live.

Mind you, I hope they have a few more car kits than they did last year.  Brand new Tamiya and Revell stuff is easy to find there but second hand rarities and obscurities - nowhere near as good since Mr Collectakit retired before last years event.

Not that my stash actually *needs* more kits in it. But that's not the point! :)

I'm hoping to be there with IPMS West Glamorgan both days, but real life is up in the air a bit at the moment with 92 year old father in law poorly in hospital so only 50/50 as to whether I'll make it.

Only specialist car trader I notice on the traders list is Model Cars. I agree Collectakit is sorely missed (other than by my wallet....!! 🤣)

Also  a shame that no other branch has volunteered to run the kit swap (although I in no way blame them as we certainly don't want to do it!!) as that was a good source of old kits released into the light of day from member's stashes...!!

Keith - so you'll be on the stand, if you make it. I'll say hello if I see you.

Gary - If you fancy saying hello we could pick a time and a place. The IPMS West Glamorgan stand where Keith might be would be a place we could easily find.

AS long as there are no last minute disasters I'll be there all weekend.

Our stand is in hall3 at the opposite end of the bank that Hong Kong models are on (3B if you have a map) - unless they move us again before we get there!

Unfortunately I haven't had chance to pack any car models for the stand

Hi both - Ok what I'll do is - assuming I manage to keep an eye on the time - I'll head over to IPMS West Glamorgan about 2:30pm Saturday and hang around for 10-15 mins or so to see if I see either/both of you there and if you're there  great and if not - nothing lost. Have a great show either way. As I'm entirely average looking in every way (middle aged white male with brown hair with some grey in it - probably describing 50% of the entire room), it's easier to describe an item I'll have  - , I'll have a black backpack with a fairly subtle Dell logo on it.

That sounds like a plan ! By 2.30 I will have got my bearings and had a look good  around . I'm definitely in that 50% of the demographic - I am mid 50  with white hair and wearing a green gillet/ bodywarmer . And a red carnation !!!!

@galaxyg

Great to meet you chaps and have a good old  chat about all things modelling at the Show on Saturday afternoon.

I enjoyed your cars Keith too and your fellow stand members who made me feel welcome .

Gary .

Likewise Gary, apologies for not being at the stand when you both first called round, a mate and I were judging our club's memorial trophy to a late member in the competition.

Really nice to have a good natter about cars, as although the rest of the members are great guys none have the slightest interest in them!! :)

@Marco F.

Apologies to you too Marco, I didn't take any pics over the weekend, I never take a camera and my phone was almost out of charge and I'd forgotten a charger (and all the rest of the club members have much fancier phones and none have a charger that fitted mine! :doh:)

I'd have loved to have gone but what a ridiculous entry fee .

Well, you could join IPMS UK, or regard it as an alternative "postage and packing" fee for access to the largest model shop in the world for the weekend, with the added bonus of a spectacular exhibition of the very best your hobby has to offer in the competition, and the opportunity to hang around and chew the fat about the most obscure aspects of modelling or history with a whole bunch of people at many different Branch or SIG displays who won't look at you like you're a weirdo for wanting to talk about them...

You pays your money (or don't) and takes your choice...

best,

M.

Hope the show is/was great...

I would,  of  course,  like to see some pictures of the models and the show itself. Seems to be a real good Event

I hope everyone who visited it was satisfied

Exit 5man

Really don't know what you expect my friend.  Telford is NOT a local show in a school hall or whatever. It is the biggest Scale Model Show in the World. Suggest you look at some YouTube videos to get an idea.

If you had any idea of what it costs IPMS UK to hire the Telford International Exhibition Centre, the entrance fee would not seem as ridiculous you like to think. The cost of hiring the venue is considerable, running into quite a number of thousands of pounds to give you some idea.

Anyway, Matt bacon as already summed  up quite eloquently in his post, so cannot elaborate any more on what he has said already.

Suggest you join IPMS if you really want value for money. You will get 2 days of entry to Telford and regular IPMS magazines posted out to you all as a part of your membership.  Pretty good for about 25 quid per year as far as I am concerned!

To get this into some perspective, how much would it cost you for a ticket to a football match or any other live sports event, or theatre ticket?

Even 1 evening at a local cinema or event might well set you back more than half of the entry to Telford.

If you stay 10am until 4pm as I did, the entertainment supplied in the form of traders and exhibitors works out at just under £4 per hour which is cheaper than the cinema and many other things, and what's on display is truly inspirational for the hobby.
