USS Saratoga CV-3 1936

Recommended Posts

Greetings!

Just completed, Trumpeter 1/350 scale USS Saratoga circa 1936 with 72 biplanes. Details on the air group can be seen here:

I have not yet decided on placement of the air group so the photos will show various arrangements. I may also add crew figures once the aircraft positioning is finalized.

The build included various photo etch sets, Starfighter decals, scratch built details and items from the spares bin. Some of the kit parts were modified to better reflect Saratoga in 1936.

Thanks for having a look, questions and comments always welcome.

Cheers,

Bill

She looks superb, well done, doing that many planes must have been supremely patience testing, I've maxed out around the fifty mark and some.od those still aren't done!

The ship looks very well made, clean and sharp, the class had an odd elegance about them, I've Lexington in the stash to someone day,

Congratulations on a great build,

Congratulations on a great build,

Thank you!  The air group was certainly a challenge - clear styrene, tiny photo etch, and decals for each plane.  Good luck with Lexington!

Wow - magnificent effort. I suspect you don't want to see another mid 30s aircraft again.😵

Thanks for having a look and commenting!  No more 1/350 scale biplanes for now!  Perhaps Langley CV-1 in future.

Super looking model and a very impressive line up of aircraft.  Though I am confused - surely she couldn't have carried them all?

Looks like she may well have been able to, see the photo on this page:

Thanks everyone for having a look at the photos and commenting.  The more recent 1/350 biplanes (T4M, F4B, BM-2) from Trumpeter have much better fit and include photo etch.  I would recommend these over the older Trumpeter TG2, SBU, F3F, and BFC.   The Trumpeter USS Langley CV-1 kit looks very nice, especially with the upgrade package.

Man, I don't want to be the crew that needs to untangle this spotting and get them all under deck. What a work of diligence and commitment. Excellent - both the Sara and the Air Group!
