  • Homebee changed the title to 1/144 - Airbus A-330-300 by Zvezda - box art - release in 2024

The WBF upper fairing looks like it's either being tooled as a separate part, or an insert in the mold cavity to allow for A330ceo/A330neo molding.

Same with the slats, it looks like with the change of an insert in the mold cavity, they will be able to mold the A330 wing (continuous slats from engine pylon to wingtip) or A340 wing (slat interruption at external pylons).

If that's the case, very smart planning from Zvezda and very impatient to grab a few kits.

The kit should be representative of a 'late' A330-300 with the reprofiled flap track fairings and the large blister fairing for the rudder actuator at the base of the fin which is very welcome since the Revell kit is, ievitably, of the very early configuration only applicable to about the first 250 or so. With the insert for the upper  wing to body fairing it'll be interesting to see if they've captured the 'Onglet' or small dogtooth between the fairing and the inboard edge of slat 1. This was removed on the A330Neo so again it the upper insert for that should reflect this. I'm intrigued by there being two radomes - I'm guessing one with and one without lightning diverter strips?

The photos and captioning on the back of the box implies all three engines options are included. I'm guessing that the PW4000 parts are on a separate frame.

The new photos definitely point to a future A340-300 release with the aperture for the Centre Landing Gear bay and the doors on the lower wing section. Also, if you look there are two rudders, the one on the lower left is slightly longer that the one on the right - that might indicate that a future A330-200, which has a taller fin, is also on the cards.

And finally, it's good to see they've finally stopped adding the unnecessary '-' between the A and 330 on the box titling. That always irritates me, the correct family designation is A3xx; except for the A400M which should always have the M (for Military) at the end.

I was sure the WBF upper area would lead to an A330neo in the future.

I'm not 100% sure but the flap track fairings look like the earlier and more common ones.

In the photos are shown the Trent 700s and the PW4000s.

Aside from the bloated nose, I still like the Revell kit which looked like it came from another planet when it was released, I think it was Revell's 1st new generation airliner kit featuring recessed details and extensive details.

I'll still try complete mine but this Zvezda kit is a no trainer as far as accuracy is.

They seem to have reverted to the 'Old School' method of representing the cockpit glazing, which I had hoped we had seen the back of.  Seems a retrograde step.....

Lovely information. We finally have a 330-200 straight from the box.

And literally yesterday I was going to buy a 330-300 in my LHS and shorten the fuselage by 33mm, but the prospect of enlarging the fin stopped me.

And now the problem is over - I just wonder whose livery they will choose 🤔

Cheers

Great news.

But I expected it somehow to happen since I recently built/converted a Revell -300...😉🙄
