CEC YT-1300 Millennium Falcon by Bandai in 1:72

Recommended Posts

Let’s move on to the next level.
Since I have also covered the back of the scaffolding, I can now put it upside down and carry on sensibly without bending my fingers.

ADCreHcioRJHFc-y83s2-VsNKyDoY7RW5eKnqN_K

The same procedure here too. Relatively poorly detailed structures from the 3D printer in connection with styrene plates and old model building remains.

ADCreHc-iwWjMyH_1lbHMiqgB36PEx_kQLxeFW2z

And of course all sorts of tubes that wonderfully conceal unwanted gaps.

Your Storage Tubing Rack [STR] is a clever way to store plastic strips etc. On the diorama base I "imagine" I can see Tiger tank filter parts and Panzer II wheels. (But once you prime them, they "vanish" to become logical Death Star components, designed by the Empire's engineers, long ago and far away, not by Germany/Japan in the 1940s/1970s. Which is as it should be.)

You have a good eye.

That is correct. I really wanted to put parts from German tanks on the plate, as ILM also had some on the Falcon.

After a short creative break, we can continue fresh.
First, armor plates were cut and attached to the top.

ADCreHf1spJMt7fsLtXf8GWTUiykfC5RrilB5LWS

Then on the right the structure started to be built further.

ADCreHe0U9O4991fYkCrR-HjeyOm-JeCKVgrNRmq

Some people will probably call me crazy, but I got the Y-Wing Starfighter and the A-Wing Starfighter from Bandai to exploit. 😵
I’m slowly running out of good, adequate kitbash parts. Here you can see, for example, the sawn-off half of the Y-Wing stand. These are also covered with styrene panels.

ADCreHerFxTTr0_8Rvl8CgH0T4b9_ukOStdOp8Z1

The right interior of the framework was provided with a printed plate, which I use like this. Super fine details are not so important here.
This is part of the original Death Star interface that can be freely downloaded online. Primed with grease it should be enough to cover the print marks.

ADCreHdgOrv4dgS-VYybfzhyZID-dvUeYJy9iof6

This thing is starting to get really heavy. 😅

It continues.

The sides are painted, but not yet equipped with the small Styrene rectangles. So I can put it on the side so I can continue working there.

ADCreHfCtm7eMpF1ZFD3CS3bkEqf55uUR1l5TXgZ

Now further detail the basic structures I created.

ADCreHcElKfPI9PcSpk5KAQtp2JfNNvanzwYXs7h

All I see in my mind’s eye are tubes. 😅

ADCreHdqouK1LucsdBwhB1lAUANysePvO7l827S0

Buying the Bandai Y Hunter was definitely worth it. Won many small applications for kitbashing again.

ADCreHfrD_ltC9vGWge1T8miPaaid7HoUmQ9Muy8

And in gray it looks like this.

ADCreHeZzwoGPFPbhCvUUkJ5oiXNys2VBhCnpW3S

Now we can go to the other side.

Thanks for the kind words.
The cup is such a tike of mine. I always buy or have them made to match my new models.

@internationalrescue

No, the Dio will not be lit.
It's the first time for me anyway, and only because Bandai specified it that way. Otherwise, never illuminate my models.

And with that, a little update. The second side is also covered.

ADCreHeEiDKCYWhQA9zl2lmm9aXBiCfq7IHmrvg0

Another printed steelwork beam was made to see if it would fit.

Just gone through all the posts from the beginning and l am truly amazed by what you have created. It looks so believable and fits in the Star Wars universe.

One question how do you bend the plastic tubes without distorting the right angle corners as it looks constant throughout, hope that makes sense.

Regards

Robert

Thank you Robert. Glad you think it fits in the galaxy far, far away.

The tubes are not hollow, but are made of solid material. I then bend them with a small hot air dryer.

Thank you very much for the nice comments.
This encourages me to keep moving forward, even if the diorama drags like chewing gum.

I haven't made much progress at the moment and just did another test today.

ADCreHce0jtNc60-hYv4lBst91OD6Y4vSpcy7lYP

So that I can see where more or less fine details need to go.

ADCreHcJ1YApEAR29HkJeY-v7HA5LHpomNFrcMx8

At the top center, for example, more parts have to go than previously assumed.

ADCreHdGFaF7OsPQ5Y2MggIwZ-v47K6a8jAEKj5J

Whereas on the right side behind the falcon there are more than enough. 😄

ADCreHdx3iqi4PRB1uIsmjdgT-TH0A0PC7_tN4T2

So march forward.

Hello dear model building nerds. Here's a look at my kitbash session today.

ADCreHcARuw2kDP4G9f237Y53_2JKkB34IRibjv6

I didn't really like the position of the bird in the diorama yet.
So I tried a slightly longer threaded rod.

ADCreHekA83qwU_6Dv6qfxl8we1IoDZ5uzedkI-1

I think the falcon looks better this way. Not so deep...

ADCreHfl-Gy_eJDnq1ZAcUM0-Y9v346UEaqfvqeX

...then the backside hangs.

ADCreHe43FfU3JZHpOOcsHeR5Lt0SmeXfCUtThAB

This way you can see more of the hard-worked details.

Which makes it even better. I seem to have missed the last couple of updates. It just keeps getting more fascinating.

But if it keeps getting heavier you'll need to fit wheels. Or an anti gravity unit.

I like the idea of light. Just some LEDs in the backscene maybe. Flashing red, for instance.

Thanks Pete.
So if then of course anti gravity unit, matching the whole thing.
I'll have to think about the lights again, but I don't think I'll implement something like that. As I already wrote, the Falcon only has the LEDs because the model intended it that way.

I'm coming to my meeting yesterday.

More Y parts…

ADCreHcW2hJODizTGueaethMzI32024AakFyNxC5

And that happened today.

ADCreHcs8ukPlwF4V80d297v1LOh8NBMwKFkOqGs

And a few little things in the middle.

ADCreHf8zRzd7f47OjLRByM2u9J32tdoLD1aTmEi

Now clean up again before we continue.

@2Linkshänder

He's already gotten a little higher. At the very end I'll take another look at the whole thing. The indirect lighting under the model would make sense. But I don't know yet. This is also a decision for the very end.

Let’s come to the finale of the middle and upper sections.
After cutting what feels like 1000 small plates, we distribute them evenly into the remaining free areas.

ADCreHeGabykSp_9vBR9la3II1roRWnOBIufzmoj

The Y hunters really pay off. It’s just money anyway.

ADCreHdPpk_pjm2L7FfhfWtbFGKHyCe1qjZwqkY_

The last pipe was also laid.

ADCreHdEvq4NtMgncXumG_z8DQjmGcTlIL_0_2o6

And with that I present fresh from the paint booth…

ADCreHfbFmkPLkt5VfjrZaN_O8m0PNDK_B-JrIGg

My very own Death Star.

ADCreHdhKnC_mljPOBa13-lnY8b6xhL5TRgnjIL5

And again in a long shot.
Now I have to briefly go back to the lower plate.
The covering for the threaded rod needs a surface on top.

And on we go.
Let’s start with the cover for the threaded rod.

ADCreHcCtdxW4QXuxMah_GaiB2Ym4yDTbeoDBWMx

Printed and covered with styrene.

ADCreHfLoguBqveOzI0MzjDLYpA3GTfIz8ywtZnw

From the paint booth…

ADCreHdv-HTmDcps01NP7GUhLNyo1Md2OOrMVTQ5

This should hide the cables and threaded rod quite well.

ADCreHdMNCHKmCp6ctjJWadk48Dyx4CpnVDNfElz

The sides also have to be filled with the obligatory squares.

ADCreHduhm-7NKPHPoOqVAIrz5Et9J7ybHzad4wC

And other Side.

ADCreHcKgQCO7vmoFmYeg1xt-iLEoN6AXzjp_FC5

This completes the inner section of the star.

ADCreHfqhfKJ6qhjJOFEaWzQuUz6FnFllYQJhojr

Let’s get to the cover test.

ADCreHdEqYGlppousPYLWFVBbcGdvy6szaj8Jl_F

Everything seems to fit.

ADCreHf5lomKNQW-eD-3eIsnGcLTwFpJ_PAZ6kq8

Here are a few more pictures from the final test.

ADCreHf7Hl2QrqxBrdY6PCPUB5s5N1Wu3ZZyBmma

ADCreHeq5NmE3h09mxT15Bj6vh_FCpBxDabA4kTl

ADCreHewHAeNIJWiQ7pHUKKepg4mWl5GDeLpbCv0

The check showed that there were enough tubes and squares.

ADCreHceyxFnXcrj2-oXxl7op3NqFGz4TGLQyyb3

I’m starting to have enough too.

Thank you and let’s get to the painting work.

First the obligatory pre-shading.

ADCreHc2Jqvg0cVkWw34S-27eVEEyQguMeGnJnyi

Base coat on and decals glued.
When it came to panel lining, things got complicated.
It doesn’t work here like it does on the falcon model. The plates are only indicated there and the color is drawn into the gaps between them by capillary action.
The panels of the diorama are of course glued on and the gap is much larger. That’s why I have to carefully apply the washing color here with a fine brush.
But do it with a steady hand.

ADCreHco0tixvqka2YVOYaMURNKzbIapo04PIgib

The countless squares emphasized with a light gray.

ADCreHdAzml_K66y0D7AhrsWmBkmeukly8_c1jo_

And the armor plates painted a shade of a darker gray in the corners. This way I get greater contrast.

ADCreHdjmelKbElok1nu3VpxDt7we5poHML2nvOe

I’m pretty happy with that and I can move on to the next round.
