Muddyf Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 I’m looking for information on Bolingbroke turrets, specifically information for the twin Browning turrets. Does anyone have drawings, diagrams etc for the turret, guns, installation etc. Photos clearly showing the guns and internal turret configuration would also be great (I have most of the easily accessible IWM etc photos already). Thanks in advance!
brewerjerry Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Hi i checked my bolingbroke manual, but nothing in it on turrets cheers jerry

Geoffrey Sinclair Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 No details on what turrets were fitted to Bolingbrokes, in particular whether the 1940 and 1941 production had single gun turrets. Check out As the turrets in Beauforts were replaced by ones designed for Blenheims.
dov Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Some pictures from Duxford. External only. The turret is simple. A hold for the gun, a tiny seat and amution boxes. No big high tech anyway! Happy modelling
Graham Boak Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 Plus device to raise and lower the turret as required, and gunsight of some kind. The Brownings would have required some kind of feed. Then the twin gun installation may well have been different.
dogsbody Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 From Carl Vincent ( @Carl V ). 1. I fear that I have no images or readily accessible information in the detail which you require. However, I have made a hasty survey of my Bolingbroke photo collection and have pulled out a few images of turrets of Bolingbroke IV and IVT that may be of interest and, possibly, of use. 2. Photos 2, 3, and 5 are zooms although my full-scale images are available. The rest are full-size scans. 3. Photos: 1. Mark IV. Single gun. 2. Mark IV. Single gun – Browning 3 & 4. Mark IV. Twin gun 5 to 9. Mark IVT. Twin gun Carl Chris, for Carl 2 3
Tail-Dragon Posted September 14, 2023 Posted September 14, 2023 If it's of any help, after as much research as I could accomplish, here's what I came up with for my Blenheim IV ... 6 1
Muddyf Posted September 16, 2023 Author Posted September 16, 2023 Thanks all for the handy information and photos. All very useful! Matt
Walter Lindekens Posted September 17, 2023 Posted September 17, 2023 Hi Matt, it's the details for the Bristol B1 Mk IV turret you're after. If you'd care to pop me a PM with your e-mail address I'll gladly send you copies out of the related Air Publication. There's a bit more to it than a tiny seat and a couple of ammunition boxes, it is quite a complicated set-up really 😀. Cheers, Walter 2
Bombphoon Posted September 19, 2023 Posted September 19, 2023 I took some pictures today of a partially restored turret. As soon as I can figure out how to get them up here, I will. 2
