Hi Everyone,

Thought I`d surprise you with a Luftwaffe subject, which is a rarity among the themes I tend to build in.

My attempt at Italeri`s 1/48 Arado 196 float plane

Decided to make life difficult by attempting to do the wings folded, which isn`t an option in the kit

Portrayed as a German crewed aircraft based at Penang in Japanese occupied Malaya around 1944

Apart from the wing-fold is built 99% OOB as usual

With just the antenna wire added

The wing-fold was done from scratch, with details made up of plastic sheet and copper  wire from a flex not 100% accurate but near enough for my shelves 🙂

Decals were from the kit

Hope you enjoy the pic`s, thanks for looking

Cheers Russ

That's indeed a rare and exotic subject - very well done, Russ, as usual. The wing fold and the cart are a nice addition. The whole job looks quite complex.

Absolutely original and pretty well done. It is an History fact that some U-Boats joined the Japanese base of Penang on the North Malaya and were given to the Japanese Navy. I remember reading about the Arado 196 which amazed the IJN members by the level of precise manufacture ! Once again Russ, Strike!

That is fantastic, really nicely done and I've learned something new today too (had never seen one in Japanese markings before).

Great build and finish, didn't realise the Japanese trialled the Ar196. Very well done.

First the build and finish of this 196 is just superb.  Second, the scratch wing fold you made looks realistic and like it came from a mod set.  Third, I have never seen this Arado done in Japanese livery.  Just great all around and I learned something.   Thanks for sharing.  Makes me feel guilty enough to take another look at the Revell 1/32 kit I have of this plane just sitting on the shelf taunting me.

No that is different!!! Extremely well done.....tackling those folding wings must have taken quite a bit of time and thought. It looks just great......

Best, Rich
