Honey, I Shrank The Tank. M3/M5 Stuart STGB Chat

I found on the tube last night a very interesting summary of the types of Stuart tank from the Australian Armour and Artillery museum.

A very knowledgeable bloke called Ron gave  this run through. They have five in the museum. Ron has at least four at home! He's also an expert on Grant tanks.

Thanks for that Pete. It might be a good idea to add that into the reference thread.

Here you go chaps, enjoy

That was fascinating! Not only the discussion of the wild variations among the units but also how they were used in post-war Australia.

Terry Gilliam and his time bandit’s at work me thinks ?

That makes perfect sense.  However, I belive the tank in Terry Gilliam's film was a Sherman Firefly (which was really a landrover with a fake tank over the top).  So it may well be from Taika Waititi's television remake of Time Bandits.

Afternoon all, could do with a bit of guidance regarding a camo pattern of two tone zigzag strips that I have been using online gaming. Tried researching but drawing a complete blank. If its not genuine, not sure I would be comfortable proceeding.

M3 compo

I know its only a model, but would like some realism to it, any thoughts more than welcome.

Does anyone have any notes or general ideas about the weld beads on the Stuart M5 series?   Its not the welds themselves am asking about as those are easily found in photos.  What I am wondering about is there purpose made channels on the plates edges that are joined so there a channel for the weld to sit in?

I noticed  the AFV Club M5 kit is missing  welds along the sides and top of the glacis plate.  The lowest plate on the rear hull are also not present - though not so much an issue as they would be sort of hidden from view once that large idler wheel is attached.

There also appears to be a bevel cut along the top of the glacis and was wondering if the bottom corner had something similar done?  Right now the model kit has next no room to add a weld between the glacis and hull roof.

Its certainly not a scheme that I have come across before.

@Pedro52 I think the closest I have seen of that zig zag style camou was in Tunisia on a Shemran nick named Major Jim

The Sherman or the link to the Stuarts?

Turns out the later are in Mexican service according to youtube.  Roughly translated is a clip from a comdy movie A Day with the Devil from 1945.
